Bit of a grey area when you get into it in my experience. Safer to go with a temporary unqualified teacher contract for the day if it’s a long-term plan. Not much difference in cost, but everyone knows where they stand. Consider giving the 0.8 teacher full PPA if they are expected to plan everything

How long/complex is it to create each one?
Behaviour disruption is at its highest level since 2019.
🚨 54% of primary teachers say behaviour disrupted their last lesson so much that teaching and learning stopped.
🚨 43% of secondary teachers report the same.
Since 2021, disruption has been rising in both phases but faster in primary.
Happy to talk through how we organise ours. If you’re starting from scratch, the NEU’s calculator is a good place to start.
My understanding is that the information cannot be shared until the report is finalised and published, which takes a number of weeks after the actual inspection.
This is a really interesting debate. Thank you for summarising it.
The first 100 days as headteacher can be daunting. Hannah Carter (@thehonesteducator.bsky.social) outlines how to approach that crucial time with purpose.

I've always found @fftedudatalab.bsky.social 'Schools Like Yours' tool so useful. We're using it to identify schools achieving great things in similar contexts and form links. 🎯
I'll be cold calling some schools in Lincolnshire soon!📶

Alice works out 748 + 525. Bob works out 748 – 527. What number is halfway between Alice’s answer and Bob’s answer?
Ages ago I used this (non-calc) Q with my KS3 & KS4 groups. None saw the answer immediately; they all tried finding Alice’s and Bob’s numbers en route to answering the Q.
Used it again with selective school-bound primary Ss. Surprised none saw the answer straight away either #edusky #Mathstoday
Fantastic first day of full headship today in a lovely school at the heart of the community.
Also, an amazing discovery on the book case - a log book that was started in September 1945! Sadly, it finishes in 1996. I may restart it for posterity…

I’ve picked up my new ID and I’m ready for my first day as a new HT on Monday. Can’t wait to get started. Let’s hope the snow isn’t too bad!
Seeing the article in the Times about “Fun”, feel again we’re missing the point, the issue isn’t about fun it’s about agency. Learning is fun or at least worthwhile when you can see a purpose. What we’ve excluded is young peoples’ voices from their education smithsmm.wordpress.com/2017/03/04/t...
If you coach, try 'mapping'. It has been a game changer for my coaching this year.
Here's our podcast about it and here's a substack:

With thanks to @olicav.bsky.social for much of the core thinking behind mapping.
Thank you for sharing.
In education, perhaps we should be more forgiving of ourselves. Most progress is hard won, even if not perfect.
Thank you for sharing. This really resonated with me: “As ever, success vs failure is obviously too stark. It’s not binary.” If we don’t achieve 100% of what we wanted to or reach an ideal in a school role, it can feel like failure, which shouldn’t be the case.

*NEW POST* The Madness of the Writing Progress Measure*. The risk in this hiatus in progress measures is we forget how mad they are. www.insightinform.co.uk/2024/11/20/t...
I am taking the plunge and moving from the other place! Looking forward to learning more about education from colleagues in and around the profession (and maybe sharing a few things myself too).
