This week, the conference "Fungal Conservation in Europe" will take place at the SLU's Ultuna campus. From @mycopat.bsky.social will be presenting our poster "How many years are enough? Quantifying the temporal sampling effort required for reliable characterization of eDNA fungal communities" ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿงฌ

I am very interested in the application of AI-based methods in ecology and believe that it still has a long way to go. I think this special feature covers some key points in ecological inference from different perspectives, which I hope will stimulate the development of this field

Russula (red cap) forming ectomycorrhizal relationships while Galerina and Mycena species (orange and pale yellow caps, respectively) decompose a wide variety of substrates.

New paper!
Here we saw how ectomycorrhizal, fungi exhibit a certain degree of functional redundancy, as different species can perform similar ecological roles, while saprotrophic fungi display higher niche complementarity. Hope you like it!

Very interesting talk by Otso Ovaskainen on the use of JSDM & HMSC for integrating community ecology data with env. variables, species traits, phylogenetic relationships in the spatiotemporal context, for community assembly processes

The soil in the reserve is unusually calcareous and therefore provides a valuable environment for rare plants and animals. Old and fallen trees host a wide range of fungi, lichens, and insects that find it difficult to survive in modern production forests

Fantastic mycological excursion ๐Ÿ„๐ŸŒฒ by @mycopat.bsky.social in an old-growth forests of the Lindsjรถn Nature Reserve, guided by Anders Dahlberg and with the wonderful collaboration of Alison Pouliot.

Sampling on late growing season for FUN-URB Proj @wslresearch.bsky.social completed. With autumn arriving in Uppsala, the cityโ€™s trees and leaves look very different.

How does urbanisation shape diversity and function of microbial communities on their leaves?

Just realized how many fossils cover the floors at Arlanda Airport

The ร–land limestone from the Ordovician and contain plenty of straight-shelled nautiloids. Not an expert, Orthoceras?

If you're passing through, don't miss it. They're hard to miss once you notice them

Hackathon @methodsinecoevol.bsky.social completed ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ’ป Amazing to share with so many people in such a unique environment

Weโ€™ve been testing whether published data/code are truly reproducible. +1200 papers reviewed. Now waiting for the results ๐Ÿ‘€ and hoping it helps move towards a more open science

Mechanisms that potentially contribute to the maintenance of interactions between bacteria, ectomycorrhizal fungi (EcMF), and land trees across varied developmental periods.

Mechanisms that potentially contribute to the maintenance of interactions between bacteria, ectomycorrhizal fungi (EcMF), and land trees across varied developmental periods.

โ€œโ€ฆwhen organisms interact can largely determine how they interact.โ€

#Viewpoint: Is it all about timing? Identifying the symbiosis critical points that govern interactions among #bacteria, ectomycorrhizal #fungi, and land #trees

This afternoon we will be presenting our poster on spatio-temporal trends of airborne pathogenic spores in Sweden at #efpp2025

10 years of continuous sampling will allow us to see how the presence of airborne pathogenic spores is related to climate change and what trends we can expect in the future

Threats from fungal diseases that attack pine and spruce are growing with climate change. But why are some trees more severely affected than others? Matilda Stein ร…slund has investigated this in her thesis to help preserve our forests in the ongoing climate change.
