Asking your employees to donate to your fundraising drive while you're threatening to cut a bunch of their positions or greatly reduce their institutional support because of fiscal mismanagement is...a choice.

🚨 New lab preprint alert! 🚨
A study 6 years in the making, made possible by @simonsfoundation.org support : "A multi-omic atlas in the African turquoise killifish reveals increased glucocorticoid signaling as a hallmark of brain aging" now on #biorXiv: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... A 🧵 1/11 🧪🖥️🧬
Congrats, @karinayaniv.bsky.social 🎉 #RockOn #WomenInScience
Yes, the th1 staining in fish is restricted to a few clusters of neurons across the brain. However this cave population might have a big expansion in the olfactory bulb. Worth following up.
Well my R15 went from 20% (new) to unscored (resubmission). Seems like NIH review is a random number generator.
Sabinos larvae brains that have glia stained blue and dopamine neurons stained red.
#fluorescencefriday Finally! We were able to breed the Sabinos population of A. mexicanus. Please enjoy this beautiful GFAP and Tyrosine Hydroxylase staining.
New study on one of our favorite indestructible fishes: The Mummichog! #killifish 🐠
Hi everyone in the academic and STEM spaces… please check in on your friends, colleagues, and students. People are struggling right now and a lot of folks need support, a kind word, or even just to know you are there if they need you. Sending hugs to my community! We are in this together.
If cell diversity and developmental biology are your thing, my talk will extremely be your jam. Come for the whole-mount spatial transcriptomics and 14Tb light-sheet videos, stay for the humble RNA in situs. Everyone loves in situs 🧪🐟🧅

New mormyrid alert! Gnathonemus marqueti is described from the Lufira basin of D.R. Congo and G. brevicaudatus is revalidated in this new article by Mukweze Mulelenu et al. in Zool. J. Linn. Soc. doi.org/10.1093/zool...
A so-fish-ticated catshark, of the freckled variety!
Scyliorhinus haeckelii are common fr Bahia Brazil to northern Argentina. Freckled catshark live along the continental shelf as deep as 400 m. Filmed at 202 m, offshore of Uruguay and the Rio del Plata during the #AsgardArchaea expedition.

Please remember when you swim in the ocean:
200 meters below you, there is a layer of fish that stretches all around the world. It is so dense, that when it was discovered during WWII it scared the navy so bad they bombed it.
This is the ocean's thin inner shell of fish [🧵]
The GPS Next-Generation Operational Control System was due for completion in 2016. Ten years later, the software for controlling the military’s GPS satellites still doesn’t work. www.wired.com/story/the-us...

An emerald bowfin
Happy St. Patrick’s Day 🍀 from the emerald bowfin!
It’s not easy being green! How does it do it? We don’t know for sure, but suspect it is biliverdin. More research in the works… 🧪

Thrilled to announce that later this year, I'll be joining the lab of @mariasachkova.bsky.social @bristolbiosci.bsky.social to research the evolutionary history of neurons in #Ctenophores! I'm sad to be leaving #zebrafish but I'll still hover around the community for the next few years at least. 1/2
Holosteans for the win! Happy to have contributed.

So cuuuuuuuutie

This one is clearly a squat-body Tripod. These fish come with all kinds of different fin lengths & satallite dish antenna fins around their faces, but their heads seem to always have this particular pointy shape. @schmidtocean.bsky.social 396 part C #edgegbr #MarineLife

The rarest of the rare! This holy-grail dream fish is a larval-stage #monkfish, aka #goosefish.
Shot in the wild, using scuba, while diving at night over water several thousand feet deep, several miles offshore from Kumejima, Okinawa.
