The most stressful part about tech interviews is always that my brain just throws out the useful information and im left with the bare bones. I could yap for hours about the issues I've had modernising source with its 2004 C++ logic but do the same with a job on the table and I dont remember a thing

Talked to someone about how long ago I started using Unity, said the end of 2009 and they hit me with "17 years?" and im pretty sure I turned to dust.

100% based on the time frame it either ran some Python image recognition script or it was pretending to look into it and then just told me what I wanted to hear.

Did the same test, same result. Told it to actually look at the shape and it took a solid 2 minutes to tell me that it is indeed just a U bracket lol

Yeah i got a set of the ones that were advertised on SideQuest for the Quest 2 and they helped a ton.

If theyre not a specific kind of glass you can get lenses that fit into the Quest 1 - 3 screens that have your prescription. Recommend as someone who has to squish their glasses into the Q3 to see anything

100% These are the kind of conversations I want instead.

I love programming, but if anyone talks to me about being a 10x or 100x engineer ever again, i'm quitting to join that ex Microsoft dev in Goose farming.

I think the best part about tools like this are the inevitable forum posts asking how to fix some incredibly simple problems

It's like raw milk, they're good for you right?
(Joking, I forgot they were pre cooked because I haven't had them in 20 years and I don't like seafood)

Scratch that my bad, they're cooked after they're caught and before people even see them.

Not sure if these are just things I'm late to discovering but if you're using #Unreal and you want to integrate various things from the Win32 API you can use WindowsHWrapper.h from the Core Components

I do enjoy that you can use Unity as a 3d renderer and just throw almost whatever .net libraries you want at it.

I've setup Protobuf + an editor window to compile all .proto scripts in the project and am working on integrating it with Lidgren to send data across a network for a simple game.

If you aren't using them already, I recommend looking into Item Templates in Visual Studio.
Found them while looking to make writing Components in O3DE less painful. They've been useful for quickly adding new headers with guards directly to a project without needing to write it all myself each time.

Finally reprogrammed VPC for VS 17, 19 and 22 support and I have a new level of respect for anyone who's ever worked on Valves Project Creator...

I also gutted your Reg Checks, and I regret nothing.

Now time to write a UI to generate projects without requiring the CLI

There is no "Unreal Engine" starter pack to follow.

So im creating one here: go.bsky.app/S3U5wKj

If you have any Unreal Engine skills, reply if you want to be added. Repost if you can so other people can be aware too.
