A portrait of Grace standing in front of a lush green background
Today—on her birthday—we honor the memory of our dear colleague and beautiful friend, Grace Hale, Reference and Instruction Librarian in the Small Special Collections Library since August 2021. Grace passed away from cancer, surrounded by her loving family, on February 3, 2026.
Individual with a backpack kneeling in front of a bookshelf filled with books. Text on image reads: "A research library has always done two things: help people find information, and help them judge it. AI changes the tools, not the mission. – Leo S. Lo" Logo for the University of Virginia Library is at the bottom.
The Library and the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences have announced the creation of the AI Literacy and Action Lab, the University's first structured, evidence-based program for developing AI competence and judgment through real project work.
