Australia Completely Loses The Plot, Plans To Ban Kids From Watching YouTube Last fall, heavily influenced by Jonathan Haidt’s extremely problematic book, Australia announced that it was banning social media for everyone under the age of 16. This was already a horrifically …

"Once you’ve built the system to block kids from YouTube, you’ve built the system to block anyone from anything. And that system will be irresistible to future governments with different ideas about what content people need to be 'protected' from."

Graph of CO2 concentrations for the past 800,000 years from the Antarctic ice cores, showing current CO2 levels of 430 ppm are far, far higher than any level over this period, which never exceeded 300 ppm. Also shown is the emergence of Homo sapiens around 200,000 years ago -- so CO2 levels are higher than we've ever experienced.

I find myself returning a lot to TNG, DS9, and even Voyager a lot because of this. We don’t need more dystopia. We need more affirmative visions of the future to aspire to which also include parables for us to learn from.

After looking at how in-cylinder pressures are asymmetrical over a cycle, I've concluded that engine designers have valves backwards. Intake valves should be small and combined with a longer cam duration to compensate for the smaller valve, while exhaust valves large with shorter duration cam.

When the physicists need burner phones, that’s when you know America’s changed | John Naughton US academics, fearing persecution by their own government, are becoming ideological refugees. Europe, and Britain, must offer them sanctuary

A recent trend at international academic conferences is that some American participants use burner phones or minimalist laptops. Their devices often run only browsers and basic software. This resembles the security measures travelers took 15 years ago when visiting China.
