A6 1/2: I think of Toni Morrison’s quote that the purpose of racism is distraction. I think “Victorious Futures” in this sociopolitical context means not merely reacting but continuing long-term proactive building of power and resources for the flourishing of minoritized communities. #literacies

Q6: I see a vision in which our research enables all kids to get to experience victories/"win" as they practice #literacies, and a vision where we can see more clearly what victory looks like from their perspectives.

A6: Thinking back to our opening question, I think a "Victorious Future" must necessarily be a co-constructed one, a future that, much like the good ole Fortnite gaming lobby, is made by a multitudinous mix of folks, all doing our own dances yet working toward the same #victory. #literacies

Q5: I am really interested in the power-laden ways AI (e.g., AI 'agents') is shaping the world of gaming, and as a result, youth's gaming #literacies.

Anne Haas Dyson, @haenyyoon.bsky.social and @brownellcassie.bsky.social are all scholars I also turn to explore that idea. Children make sense of, interpret, and rewrite their surroundings as they play. It could look like close ethnographic study of children's playful #literacies for example!

Q3: In my experiences researching online communities, language, access, and power are always in some way mediating the literate activities taking place (e.g., digital writers drafting in different languages to reach different audiences). As #literacies researchers, it's our job to follow that.

A2. I’m interested in how asymmetric games - games in which players have different roles, objectives, and mechanics (i.e., Netrunner, MtG, Root) - might illuminate ways that people can compose together in community through processes that are both unique AND congruent. #literacies

A2: I think play and games are such a powerful way to understand children's social worlds and perspectives, and always find myself turning to @toysrtexts.bsky.social, Carmen Medina, and Mia Perry's Playful Methods as I consider play as itself an urgently needed form of #literacies research.

The relational aspect you raise makes me think about the role of power in victorious moments as well. For some reason I often associate victory with an "underdog" narrative, but watching students play games IRL, I've observed them as spaces where power is negotiated, and in complex ways #literacies

A1: Victory has so much to do with the speculative for me, imagining something, then building it into reality. #literacies
