To know more about "enriched straw", head to our article about our simple humanure system. Closing another part of a cycle so that our poo is not an expensive waste.

"90 millions of critters in each teaspoon of soil" says Suzanne Simard in her iconic "Finding the Mother Tree" book.
Look at this list of decomposers, so poetic!! As well as useful. #lovenature #loveEarth
Before. I gathered all the ingredients, bokashi buckets, biochar bag, leaves, half a compost bin of freshly discarded greens, a wheelbarrow of pre-composted human manure and rabbit. And fork.
After: the first bin is empty and pre-started for cold compost. The second bin is full, layers of greens and carbon, it's going to become very hot and decompose beautifully The bokashi buckets are ready to go back near the kitchen, with a bonus of two 3-liter bottles of bokashi juice that will feed the garden later.
Close up of the surface of the compost pile, finishing with leaves and biochar, and partially covered until it rains. The covers are just preventing the birds to empty the bin out.
Today I closed the loop, started the cycle, or simply made the #compost.
Layers of leaves, fresh green waste, enriched straw (composted rabbit blood and bone+ poo), bokashi, and a sprinkle of biochar. Satisfying!
A quality time with nature #inthegarden that will reward us with healthy food.
A detailed article on that Treaty aggression. It matters to Maori people AND also Pakehas who are not extractors profitors, colonialists like me.
No consultation. I hope another #hikoi is getting organized to block that until we topple that government madness.

Self-soothing is a good word, and a necessity in those anxiety prone times.
I self-soothe with meditation, gardening, walks in nature, tree hugging, baking, loving...
Here is a heart for everyone who needs self-soothing. #Love
And eroded democracy, with Treaty of Waitangi attacks, with fast tracking without public submissions, with removal of elected regional councils...
And sold our soul to the USA and military...
And destroyed the environment proudly, exploitation
The worse government for our peaceful green nation.
When humans go, wildlife thrive.
No pest control needed.
Just biodiversity and nature doing their thing, balance, abundance, sharing, regenerating.

Here and there and nearly everywhere, governments choose fossil fuels and huge private gains over fairness, planet and people.

200 millions to build an energy system for 12000 homes and destroy an amazing rare ecosystem.
That's $16666 per home, it pays for a lot of solar panels, providing most of the energy needs. Without destroying a valley.

Nearly halfway through the iconic Finding the Mother Trees by @drsuzannesimard.bsky.social
I knew the jest of it but the story is fascinating, and courageous!
I see the soil, trees and fungi and forests differently for ever!
No to clear cuts!

It's mad that New Zealand doesn't feed itself with just 5 million people and such a fertile land!
My organic oats come from Australia, I can't even make a local porridge! Only poppy seeds are from the garden, and linseed from NZ.
#Iwillvote for the team who will foster #localfood at all levels.
A trove of information for the #energytransition.
Energy savings, switching to electric, investing in solar and renewable is required for the civilization to survive and will also solve many crises fossil fuels use creates.
www.rewiring.nz
It also creates resilient healthy silent communities.
A no brainer👏 Furthermore, once we have solar and wind, energy flows for free.
It's not only about Ormuz, it's about weaning ourselves and our society from fossil fuels. They are unsustainable, pollute, accelerate climate change. They are expensive and will worsen as oil is harder to get.
#change
If our food depends on fossil fuels, transport and/or fertilisers, it is smart to redesign our supply by growing our own, choosing local and fossil fuels free.
It's good for the planet, for health, for community and resilience.
New Zealand can't feed us!

Dix Park (USA) is a wonderful result of #public-private partnership, showing the world over that is is possible and beautiful too!
The City of Raleigh owns and operates Dix Park.
The Dix Park Conservancy is a #nonprofit that help ensure the creation and long-term success of Dix Park.
It's important in current crises to grow local, both food and community connections.
Who has so extra land they would agree to long term lease to a community garden group? Or garden plots? Or a market garden social enterprise? Or a food forest?
Can our Council help with this?
Even if your are not blessed with a piece of land, you can welcome and enjoy nature in your living space.
Adding as many edibles as possible is good resilience too.
Herbs on the window sill, a few veggies in a planter💝🪴🌱
I once had a pepper plant providing spice and beauty continuously.
Quince is an abundant healthy fruit, on a beautiful flowering tree too.
"How do you use Quince?" "It's too hard to peel!" Well, I use it with apple, I don't peel, the skin is soft when cooked.
I cut in quarter on a board, then remove the hearts in an angle.
Here shredded, layer under the apples.
Last July, I wrote that letter to the PM. Signed by more than 50 people.
