19 May 1536 - The Execution of Anne Boleyn - The Anne Boleyn Files To commemorate Anne Boleyn's execution, which took place on this day in 1536, I'm going to share the preface of my book on Anne's fall...

My annual reminder that Anne Boleyn was beheaded on this day in 1536.
Men have been abusing women since at least this date in history. ("At least" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in this sentence.)

Sobering, and important. Hannah Yelin (Ox Brookes): 'Her latest paper, published in the journal New Formations, found that 74 per cent of academics had experienced online harms as a result of sharing research publicly – affecting their careers and causing significant physical and mental harms.' 1/3

After a lot of hard work, the book about the Welsh women's peace petition of 1923-24 (Yr Apêl/The Appeal, Lolfa Press) is officially out there in the world. We had the launch last night in the National Library of Wales here in Aberystwyth, to a full house. 1/2

Throughout Russia's war in Ukraine, Moscow has not focussed its military recruitment efforts on women at all - just the opposite. Interesting that snipers are identified as a key role for women, echoing the experience of Soviet women in WW2
