Old... yeah. Got to see them live summer of '95. Not only feels, but was, a lifetime ago.

Sam stood proudly while Stanley deflated.
A tiny creek flowing over rocks with moss and fern. The long exposure time reveals water streaking from the upper left to middle of the frame. Sunlight in the left corner over-exposes and washes out the fern.
Needed to post this massive torrent for #WaterfallWednesday
I second the 293 rec with one caveat, they lift way too easily off a dish and stink for microscopy. Transfection reagents have greatly improved rates in most cell cultures. Check out Mirus Bio: www.mirusbio.com/discovery-re...

Voting for ASV (American Society for Virology) president ends next week, and I only now learned that @szparalab.bsky.social is in the running! Moriah is one of the most caring people, especially for trainees, in our field, and I can't recommend her enough ❤️
A veritable Nostra-dumbass.
Students (and scientists) seem to hate saying “I don’t know.” It’s viewed so negatively. But I have long believed that thinking of “I don’t know” as a negative is wrong. It’s an *opportunity*.
Please tell me someone has written a paper about autophagy titled "Caveat mTOR"
Why half-ass one job, when one can quarter-ass two jobs at the same time!?
Photo of Snoqualamie Falls in Washington state. Foreground center right a torrent of white water falls into a dark blue pool in the bottom of the frame. To the right green cliff walls rise to meet tall pine trees that extent to the top of the frame. To the left, sheer brown cliff walls rise with the a brown building with white windows on the top.
Always a treat to see Snoqualamie Falls. This photo was taken just before sunset, casting the reddish hue over the scene. #waterfallwednesday
A swath of snow with deep shadows fills the foreground. Wind has carved horizontal lines across the snowy yard. A fence frames the background.
We have hit the middle of February and the temp outside is an outrageous 44˚F (~6.5˚C for you rationale individuals). We have no snow and I am despondent at the lack of winter this year. Come'on East Coast, yer hogging all the snow. Send some to Montana! Photo for inspiration.
Happy 134th birthday to humans knowing that viruses exist! OTD in 1892 Dmitri Ivanovsky presented his evidence of a tobacco mosaic disease caused by filterable agents (not bacteria!). Martinus Beijerinck confirmed this independently in 1898. And voila, virology is born!
we need to talk about that Ring Super Bowl ad
This may seems crass, but what the f' was I smoking. 2026 has been a burning tire dump of a year and we are only one month in.
Memory is strange like that. I regret not getting a photo of him on this hike and I am so thankful for the photos I do have. Broadly, I realize that I need to take more snapshots of even the most mundane things. You never know when they won't be around.
Photo of a dirt trail in the woods. The trail is center of picture foreground with sunlight shining through branches. On either side of the trail, tall mossy trees reach to the top of the frame, casting shadows of the woods on either side.
This photo doesn't seem like much, but it means the world to me. This was the last hike I ever took with a dear friend who passed away almost 10 months later. It is the only photo of the hike and he isn't even in the frame. But all it takes is one look to remember all that transpired on the hike.
Some songs feel like people you grew up around. Even when they’re gone, the sound still knows their shape.
Not the best day today. The solution is for me to create a better tomorrow. It’s up to each of us, after all.
Spent the last few days de-googling my workspace. I should've done this a couple years ago but here we are. Proton for email, drive, calendar, vpn. Brave browser. A friend in cyber security shared this guide for Cutting Google Out of Your Life for anyone who needs it:

A view of the night sky with stars in the background. The aurora appears as streaks of red to green light through the center of the image. Dark outlines of rooftops and trees are in the bottom foreground.
Aurora was out in Bozeman earlier this evening. I missed the peak and still managed to see some amazing pillars of greens, reds, and purples.
An orange sun sets over a wine-dark sea. Clouds above a lit up, fading from orange to a grey.
The end of this year is nigh. It has been a tough one, but there have been some significant wins along the way. Don’t give up hope that 2026 is better.
100% using this in my protocols from here on out!
Snowing at the lab today here at Montana State ❄️🦠🧫
Front yard in Bozeman. Amazing everytime.
Night sky image of the northern lights. Red vertical streaks dominate the upper left, with clouds back-lit by a green glow underneath. Houses frame the bottom of the image.
Northern lights report from Bozeman, MT. So red, easily visible without camera.
Image of a sunset with trees and a shed in the foreground. On the shed is an orange neon sign that says "Beer".
If only the universe would give me a sign to tell me what I need....
This is the fire and truth we need to hear every day.
Today we raise a glass to American-made beer — bold, refreshing, and brewed with pride! #NationalAmericanBeerDay
