👇🧠Avoidance is context-specific, shaped by inferred control and feedback reliability.
We introduce a persistence-escape paradigm and a model where agency acts as a gating signal, emerging from meta-control over cognitive-affective signals.

Resilience under threat may depend on what is built before it. We find that #agency accumulated in „failure-safe“ contexts linked to:
• reduced #escape under threat
• adaptive responses when control is lost
New paradigm + MACA-Q model make agency measurable (preprint soon).

Why can similar avoidance behavior emerge from distinct processes? In a new paradigm & RL-meta-control model, agency emerges as dynamic quantity 👉same avoidance arises from distinct latent trajectories, with distinct adaptive behavior across contexts. Avoidance depends on context. More to come soon!

We’re bringing computational psychiatry to #ACNP2026

Our panel shows how RL, DDMs, active inference, and neural models can unpack symptom heterogeneity across anxiety, psychosis, ADHD, depression, and suicide risk-moving beyond diagnoses to mechanisms.
