Lovely to be back in TU Delft for #ICRS2026 International Conference on Resilient Infrastructure, presenting work from the @darehub.bsky.social researchers. Enjoyed the keynote from Caroline Field of PA Consulting this morning, and this must be the best conference freebie ever!
Last week we held DARe's 3rd Funder & ALB Workshop, with EPSRC, DfT, Network Rail, National Highways, and HS2. Great questions, thoughtful challenges, and lots of discussion on how to ensure DARe’s work is useable and accessible.

DARe Hub members had the great opportunity to share DARe research at the 105th TRB Annual Meeting (@nationalacademies.org).
Dr Wei Bi presented the DARe integrated #modelling framework, which combines #rainfall, flood, and agent-based #transport modelling (AgBM).

Climate‑resilient transport isn’t optional, it’s essential.
The collapse of Devon’s A379 after storm damage highlights the urgent need for long‑term adaptation and resilient transport planning recognising rising sea levels, stronger storms, and changing coastlines.

Addressing #decarbonisation and #resilience together, rather than in isolation, will be key to delivering a clean energy transition that is robust, equal, and fit for the challenges ahead."

Improving energy efficiency across this nexus, e.g. reducing unnecessary energy use in transport, is essential not only for cutting emissions at lowest cost, but also for easing pressure on energy networks and safeguarding mobility, economic activity, and critical services.
As #transport becomes increasingly electrified, energy and transport networks are no longer separate systems but tightly coupled infrastructures, where disruption in one, such as extreme weather caused failures, can rapidly cascade into the other.
A country road passes through a green landscape with large wind turbines on one side and an electrical transmission tower on the other under a partly cloudy sky.
Reflecting on the International Day of #CleanEnergy, Dr Si Chen (@glasgow.ac.uk) said: "Clean energy is more than just how we generate power. It’s how we move, how efficiently we use energy, and how resilient our systems are when they are placed under stress.
Thankyou to the North East Combined Authority, Go North East, Stagecoach Group Limited, Nexus and Newcastle City Council for their valuable contribution to our research.

Buses are key for population mobility, and correct representation is fundamental to simulating realistic scenarios.
To develop DARe's North East case study and models, we met with local transport stakeholders to talk about #bus detours when both unexpected and expected events affect bus services.

Dr Li Wan, #DAReNationalHub Co-Investigator, said: "To strengthen climate resilience, we must focus not only on physical assets and places, but also on the institutions, behaviours, and social norms that shape how societies respond to risk."
Millions more homes across England, Scotland & Wales face rising #flood risks, and some towns may have to be abandoned. Densely populated areas like London, Manchester & NE England are especially vulnerable.
