A6 By allowing choice in the spectrum of assessment design. Whether itās a traffic light or 2 lane approach or⦠and these should be overarching with integrity in mind. Moderation & standardisation should be mandatory for reliability.
A3 Open and regular dialogue. Sharing ai tool updates and encouraging sās to share also. Utter clarity with assessments - or - let sās choose what they use as long as itās within guidelines and ensures academic integrity. Require disclosure - in a positive rather than punitive frame. #LTHEchat

A2 I subscribe to the UOSydney 2 lane idea - although even closed exams now challenged by smart glasses š¤¦š»āāļø. I like that it embraces insecurity as both real and a route for A4L. Validity for me means detailing granular process in design & providing rationale for which bits should/nāt involve ai.
Q2 What does a valid and secure assessment look like in your area of interest right now?
Reply with A2 #LTHEChat and your response
A1 I think that depends on having chunked the assessment process and having decided which bits need to be human, synthetic or hybrid knowledges
Q1 How does GenAI prompt us to re-examine what āvalued forms of knowledgeā look like in areas you teach or support students in?
Reply with A1 #LTHEChat and your response
A1 Itās taken us back to basics. Fundamentals - what is knowledge? What is learning? What is education? I like the way it makes us narrow what is /isnāt so meaningful. #LTHEchat

There really is a new geopolitics of higher education with respect to AI.
It maps pretty neatly onto which countries prioritise STEM vs. Social Science/Humanities.
Watch South Korea. It's the country that appears to be sitting right on top of the fault line.
As the analysis starts of the Gorton and Denton result, I wanted to flag some aspects that my experience yesterday suggests are being over or under-played
(Caveats - I went to Longsight, Gorton and Denton town centres and spoke to as many people as I could, but it was mostly during the working day)
āStudy after study shows that students want to develop these critical thinking skills, are not lazy, and large numbers of them would be in favor of banning ChatGPT and similar tools in universitiesā, says @olivia.science

We hosted a second "Avoiding AI" panel earlier this month. It featured three faculty sharing their strategies for keeping AI (mostly) out of their courses. Here's my recap of the event: cte.virginia.edu/news/more-st...
