Disappointing news about LD 2115 — the bill to create a Maine Drinking Water Well Cleanup Fund (sponsored by Rep. Dan Ankeles):
The legislative session ended without funding the bill ☹️
This leaves private well owners on the hook for water cleanup costs like filter systems, connecting to town water

Residents have struggled to get answers about these soil piles (Where did the piles come from? Is the soil contaminated?) since they started appearing in fall 2024
For more background, see BACSE's "Letter of Concern":

A few updates on the excavated soil piles on Brunswick Landing:
Maine DEP's Solid Materials Unit says the soil piles *will be tested for PFAS* and other contaminants
Still no word on whether the piles will finally be covered (to reduce dust blowing around) after more than a year

Rep. Ankeles (bill sponsor):
“Whether you live in a water district or you rely on a well, you shouldn’t have to worry about what will happen to you and your family when you fill your cup. That is why I will continue to advocate for this bill until it is fully funded and signed into law.”

LD 2115 would establish the Well Contamination Response Fund within #Maine DEP to fund investigation, sampling, monitoring, abatement, remediation or mitigation #PFAS contamination in soil and groundwater, including in private drinking water wells.
