Oh no! #MathSky friends! According to a theoretical physicist and Scientific American, we just can't agree! Even if it doesn't lead to any more contradictions that calculus.

I don't think people fully appreciate how apocalyptic things are for US science. I haven't had any new funding since 2024, but I'm still ok since typical grants are for three years. This means next year I will be completely out of funding and will have to fire everyone in the lab. It's not great.

Breaking the Fast: Production of Dates (Fruit) In Metric Tonnes, By Country
Ramadan just ended. While Muslims have many different cultural traditions, a shared one is to break the fast with a date. Where do these dates come from?
Check out this multiplication chart drawn to scale from Anthony at The Chalkface! This version is so much more intuitive.

NEW Post. I picked a random lesson and shared my planning: Walking Through a Lesson fawnnguyen.substack.com/p/walking-th...
Congratulations! π
Ready for the recording!
Thank you!
Love these! If you are willing to share I would like to use them for early AP review/ retrieval.
A warmup question with four questions about slope and average rate of change.
A warm-up question with two different simplifying fractions questions. One "mild" and one "spicy" (a compound fraction).
Students sketch three different functions each is discontinuous at x = 1 but each has a different type of discontinuity.
A few warm-up questions from this week in my high school Calculus class. I start each day with a question. Sometimes for review/retrieval, sometimes to launch the day's discussion and sometimes for practice/consolidation. #ITeachMath #MathsToday
framework for planning: what? so what? now what? in a cycle
Love seeing @jennalaib.bsky.social using this framework. I learned from @deltadc.bsky.social . Often ask learners to pick one to consolidate thinking. Applying to planning is great. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dH7...

Educational for some!
School leaders, give your people time to just do math together. I promise it's SO worth it.
Hi everyone! Itβs been a minute.
Need your help with high school math sequences. Anyone whose school changed from an alg1/geo/alg2 sequence to alg1/alg2/geo??
Or have read research on the topic.
I see what you did there.
I see what you did there. Have a blast!
You focus on making math accessible and joyful for students AND teachers. Keep doing you. Itβs wonderful. And HBD! π₯³
We no longer have funds for conferences. I think it is so important to have those connections and learning with teachers from other states and countries.
Shelli was a guiding light for me during virtual COVID learning. Her Saturday Zooms helped keep my sanity. I was always inspired by her continuous learning. Such a loss. May she rest in peace. Her legacy lives on.
You and your knives. π
We need a virtual hang one Saturday. Just to reconnect.
