I spent almost a year unemployed, applying to jobs all over the place, and I got so lucky to land my job in Oxford because it really set me up for working in the South - and it opened my eyes to the reality that being in the North, moving home, would mean significantly lowering my earning power

Anyway I moved away from the North East for work 8 years ago, and even before that, I couldn’t find work near my hometown. I went to university 40 minutes away in Sunderland, and worked for a year in Newcastle. 1hr20m train twice a day, 5 days a week 💀 for an internship that barely paid minimum wage

There’s a Guardian article about Scarborough that I’m reading and it’s making me cry, but also laugh, because Scarborough and Whitby are the nice places my family went for day trips, because the seaside town I grew up (an hour south) is so shit 😂
