Thank you so much for watching! Very true. I think that's what made the discovery event more shocking, as he lived a seemingly normal life after coming to the US.

My latest video is out!

Yes, it certainly was!
I learned a lot about what it was like to be a convict in England in the mid 19th century.

In the video I discuss how a message from a DNA match led to discoveries about my Magner family, including about my criminal ancestor.
I think this will be one of my best videos! I include a lot of sources and provide broader historical context. Hopefully it'll have broad appeal.

Hi #GenHour, I hope you've been having a good week!
My next YouTube video is set to be released tomorrow. And I think it's one that many will find engaging!
It's about the discovery that my 3rd great-grandfather was a criminal in mid 19th century England.

Thanks for watching! Yes, I'm definitely a problem solver as well. I get such a high when I'm able to solve a difficult genealogy puzzle!
I became a genealogist completely by accident.
In my latest YouTube video, I share my story and reflect on why people get hooked on genealogy.
I’d also love to hear your story: what first pulled you into family history research?

Hi #GenHour, how has your week been?
I'm excited to release my next YouTube video tomorrow. It'll be about how I got started with #genealogy.
The video is narrative-driven and should appeal to a wide audience. I hope it leads to a broader discussion about what draws people into genealogy.
Sunrise over NYC with clouds below and above the NYC skyline
What a sunrise this morning!
There are some great deals though. I will be utilizing their 50% discount on an Ancestry subscription. I believe it should work for current subscribers. #GenHour
I'm so jealous that you've been able to attend RootsTech before! #GenHour
#GenHour I also hate big crowds, but I guess I'm used to it having to take the NYC subway to work? A crowd of genealogists sounds way better.
I've also always wanted to visit the FHL. Hopefully I can make it out to SLC one day.
I hear that. I've already listened to a session or two, but it's not the same as attending in person. I'd love to be able to connect with genealogists there.
The weather is also abysmal here in NYC (it's been a very rainy, cold day), which doesn't help things either.

Hi #GenHour, my latest YouTube video has "broken out" with over 28,000 views!
I feel so grateful that it has reached a wider audience.

Hi #GenHour, how is everyone?
I'm having some serious #RootsTech FOMO, but I am attending sessions online. Hopefully I'll be able to attend in person one day.
There are lots of great #genealogy deals. Check them out at the RootsTech Expo Hall site here: www.familysearch.org/en/rootstech...
In my latest video, I discuss an exciting new Y-DNA study that investigates the Cohen priestly claim of descent. This is the first paper to incorporate Big Y testing of Cohanim from Jewish communities around the world. And the results are fascinating!

The Cohen oral tradition spans 3,000 years of paternal line descent dating back to Biblical times. But what does science have to say? Does this claim hold up when put to the test?

Hi #GenHour, I'm excited to release my next YouTube video tomorrow. It's my longest scripted video yet at over 45 minutes!
The video is about applied Y-DNA research. I'll be talking about a new study that investigated a supposed 3,000 year oral tradition of paternal line descent. It's fascinating!
I had a big discovery this week. Thanks in part to ThruLines, I found a very distant paternal-line relative and have connected with him. We share a common ancestor from the 1750s!
We've corresponded a bit by e-mail and I'm hoping to convince him to take a Y-DNA test. We'll see!

Hi #GenHour, I was on vacation last week enjoying some warmer weather. I've come back refreshed and ready to tackle more #genealogy projects.

@jkmfamilyhistory.bsky.social, wow this is fantastic!! I love this connection between genealogy and weather!!
Ice on the Hudson River
The NYC skyline with ice in the Hudson River
Lots of ice on the Hudson River this morning!
Thank you!
Wow, that's a great story. Family photos can be powerful!
#GenHour Thank you!
This is really helpful. Thank you!!
Defining the scope succinctly is important. And getting 50% upfront and the balance upon research results makes a lot of sense.
That's good to know what a professional's hourly rate is. My skill level is advanced but this is my first time charging.

#GenHour Yes, I'm starting from zero here. She doesn't have any info about this part of her husband's family so I don't have to fact-check work she already did.
Thank you! #GenHour
Thank you! Sometimes all it takes is a single photo to help solve a DNA mystery. #GenHour
Precisely, I am worried about that. I want to be paid fairly for my work.
Maybe it makes sense to charge an initial fee for some early work and then I can get a better sense of what I might be able to deliver.
