My favorite part of the book was that I thought it was just a reissue of the existing book. Instead he went into an entire rewrite with new data points and areas where he was wrong in the first book.

My preference is self healing agents, identify the alert, resolve the alert, or take remediating actions.

Oh man this is a great question! There’s hope that AI can help reduce alert fatigue. This could be an exciting space. A few years back we started to focus on transformation from an app alerting perspective/ business impact vs the flow of infra related alerts. That enhanced visibility and changed!

The older IT model was heavily dependent on deep SMEs. They had to be deep in a particular domain, and every decision defaulted to their knowledge. it Ops can no longer depend on this model. Tech moves too fast and decisions need to be made faster. #CIOchat

We are at another inflection point in technology, empathy, consideration and operating models must evolve. I’d prefer the organization to not learn of a major organizational shift through the news but careful planning and FAQs internally. AI is changing operating models and roles must too.

#CIOChat 'Standing on the shoulders of Giants' build platforms on top of existing patterns and hyperscalers. Wardley Mapping would be a great exercise to understand directionally what the future might look like for organizations.

As the CIO, if we are not part of that discussion, wouldn't that mean we failed at our purpose?

AI, low code, etc., are evolutions of where we were, and we need to update the age-old paradigm of 'IT.' We have to evolve into the trusted partner beyond being an order taker and truly transform. This can be done by embedding 'CIOs' within each business unit and centralizing specific IT functions.

#CIOChat A3: CIOs need a seat at the table with the business, understanding their objectives and drivers. When they are disconnected from the outcomes, you lose the ability to have influence on governance and enablement.

#CIOChat A2: CAASBs are a simple solution for understanding the environment. However, platforms should still have a review process to validate their architectural fit within the organization. There should still be an alignment for using well-practiced IAM controls to support environment access.

We have 'technologists' who are writing FOSS today that enables global partnership without our direct input or support, sitting in our business.

If we have a strong CIO leader, we would know these products are being created and be fully aware, eyes wide open. I don't see a reason why the business can't lead this directly from the business unit?

Building business capabilities within a business unit should be an accepted practice if there is strong governance around programs such as AI from a central function. It can enable closer partnership and large gains in innovation when business teams are part of the creation of new products.

Agreed, AI will continue to evolve I could see it being similar to autonomous robotics on the assembly lines evolution over time. Human managed to human assisted.
