I love the reflections you are valuably churning here. Last week I presented in both Minneapolis and Phoenix, both places wanted to focus on AI, and my central message in both talks was: you have choice; anyone telling you that you don't (that AI/anything is inevitable) is selling you something.
hard same. <3
I was going to reply with the same, including credit to @clairewillett.bsky.social for the h/t! I never knew I was looking for a taxes influencer or that Claire was one, but my taxes were so dang easy to file and FREE!
#NonprofitRadio returns with a two-part podcast: first, Rubin Singh of OneTenth Consulting on human factors in nonprofit tech adoption and management; then @amysampleward.bsky.social, NTEN’s CEO, covers everything about #26NTC.

The Democratic Party in Oregon's state legislature is absolutely rotten with money.
"Dan Meek, an attorney who for years has been at the center of efforts to curtail money in Oregon politics, labeled it “the bill to destroy campaign finance reform in Oregon.”'
A view from Huntington Place with table and chairs sitting in front of large windows looking out to a river and tall buildings in the distance.
Same. A space to connect and renew and probably cry but also fill back up my bucket of hope.
And here's the sunny spot where you'll be part of it!
Wait, no, really 12 years?! Should I trust your math? 😲
I wrote about the House hearing today, how Congress is trying to strip anonymity from the Internet, and the devastating effects that has for journalists, whistleblowers, LGBTQ ppl, immigrants, civil rights activists, abortion providers and anyone challenging power for @theintercept.com
If there are funders waiting for the "right time" to support us anonymizing participant / service recipient data in vulnerable nonprofits, this is it. Demand for our security cohorts is through the roof but funders are telling me "security isn't something we've heard from our grantees." We're ready.
I can't get over the pipe and drape that is supposed to convey "completely secure situation room" and they didn't even use nice enough drape for it not to be see through let alone actually secure this space in any meaningful way.
It doesn't have to be this way.
We belong to each other. All of the children belong to all of us. Our responsibility is to each other.
My heart breaks open over again every day with grief in service to breaking open to a better world. Let us build from grief toward love.
An article in the NYT today revealed Meta’s plan to take advantage of current political turmoil to sneak facial recognition into their smart glasses without enforcement bodies or privacy advocates noticing. But EPIC has noticed—and is ensuring that enforcers do, too. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/13/t...
Joseph Gordon-Levitt made a 12-minute response video to people mad at him supporting mass surveillance and censorship, and somehow got even MORE wrong about Section 230 than his original congressional testimony.

I brought an actual desk out into the snow and gathered a bunch of my neighbors to sing this anti-ICE protest song.
On the desk is:
-A mug from the North Dakota AFL-CIO I happened to have in my cabinet, containing two (2) pride flags
-A photo of Anne Feeney
-A sign that reads "Abolish ICE"
Without naming your job, tell me something you say over and over again at work.
"We build our world. We can build it differently."
Thank you! It was such a full room and generous group. My cup is full!

Thank you @wyden.senate.gov (see thread) - we need everyone joining these efforts. Surveillance tech is fueling violence across our country and communities. Call on your elected leaders to stop it: www.fightforthefuture.org/actions/no-f...
As someone who was a bike commuter for many years and is not anymore, it feels like often in these discussions there's a missing reality of folks (like me, though my experience is not universal) that stopped because we no longer commute and not that we no longer bike. My office is just now my home.
FCC Commissioner Anna M. Gomez issued the following statement after the FCC proposed changes to the Lifeline program that could cause eligible households to lose critical federal support, increasing phone and internet bills for families who stand to lose up to $9.25 per month, and as much as $34.25 per month on Tribal lands.
At a time when millions of families are already struggling with the rising cost of living, the FCC should be focused on making connectivity more affordable.
Instead, it is erecting new barriers that risk raising phone and internet bills for the people who can least afford it. 🧵
Congress claimed it was passing the "TikTok ban" bill to protect American data privacy, but the results from last week's deal to save the US version of the short-form video app show anything but. Read the latest from @publicknowledge.bsky.social Director of Government Affairs Sara Collins:
THREAD: 404 Media has been covering ICE and the technology they've been using to surveil and raid "targets", detain people based on a flawed facial recognition app, and lie about violence on the streets.
They have established itself as an agency that cannot be trusted to live in or present reality.
NEW: ICE is asking companies to provide information about “commercial Big Data and Ad Tech” products that could “directly support investigations activities,” reports @carolinehaskins.bsky.social www.wired.com/story/ice-as...
If you are a techie and not sure what to say, tech is a huge enabler for the violence you are witnessing and you can speak to that.
Here's a calling tool that connects you w/ lawmakers and has a script to follow: fftf.link/ICEfunding
Making change requires all of us trying from the angles we can.
We’re doing a survey of people who have stayed in homeless shelters. No paywall. Please send to anyone you think has something to say! Or like/re-post to increase the likelihood the right people will see it. THANKS
