Yes they’re a perennial, but they vary on what zones they tolerate. Also individual plants don’t last very long, usually around 3 years. they come back every year via runners that root and start new plants.

I usually grow petunias for our plant sale but this year is the first time I’ve attempted Violas. Definitely doing them again next year!
These are β€˜Brush Strokes’ Violas.

Poison hemlock has smooth, hairless, purple spotted/streaked stems and a foul odor sometimes described as β€œmousy.”
Queen Anne’s lace has hairy stems and smells like carrots.
To get rid of the hemlock, wear gloves and long sleeves- pull /dig up by the root and double bag to dispose in trash 😷

You can entice one into your yard by leaving broken upside down pots, moist shady spots like leaf piles, and a shallow dish/bird bath of water at ground level.

The Latin name for Grecian Windflower is Anemone blanda- Derived from anemos (wind) and the suffix -one (daughter of), it refers to the belief that the flower's delicate petals only open when the wind blows πŸ’šπŸŒ±

For hot peppers Ralph Thompson squash peppers and Portugal peppers are our go-to for personal family use, and for sweet peppers we love Zulu bell and Aconcaguas πŸŒΆοΈπŸ«‘

King-Devil Hawkweed (Hieracium piloselloides) is an invasive noxious weed (U.S.) in the sunflower family that spreads aggressively in disturbed areas.
It takes diligence and determination to get under control but the ecosystem thanks you πŸ’š

We don’t sell seed potatoes because Iowa climate isn’t ideal for large scale production- but for our personal use we swear by Wood Prairie Family Farm.
I always do a little happy dance when the package arrives in March πŸ•Ί πŸ₯”

Spring is officially here as of 9:46am CST
Our average last frost here in z5 isn’t for another 6 weeks but tomorrow is supposed to be 88Β°F so it should be an interesting season lol

Just a bit chuffed that my shop’s photo is the very first thing to pop up on google search for Japanese variegated morning glory 😁
We’re always sold out of seed by March, so I’m putting up an extra trellis bed this year in hopes of keeping up with demand.

It’s not the snow that’s the problem, it’s the 65mph winds on a 15ft greenhouse that’s essentially a lightweight tent.

1 month ago 2 0 1 0

It’s a portable greenhouse so there’s no center beam, it was just an issue of the stakes and cord being strong enough to withstand high winds.

Hang in there, buddy! We have a blizzard warning for tomorrow through Monday morning- We lost our greenhouse to a blizzard last year, so hoping the 18” steel extreme weather stakes and 850 paracord will hold it this go around 🀞

If your ground is thawed enough to dig, you can still plant them. They won’t bloom as profusely when planted later because the root development isn’t established, but they’ll still be ok 😊

Idk who needs to hear this but if you live in an area that still gets the occasional frost/freeze in April, it’s not too late to plant those native wildflower seeds you forgot last fall.
