Very happy that this is finally accessible đ
Beyond the amazing 3D models that can be downloaded in several formats, @leaveylab.bsky.social added lesson plans for using them in anatomy teaching.
We also detail the protocol for AI-based segmentation that I developed during my previous postdoc.

Enormous whale skeleton suspended in a diving pose in a vast gothic space full of people
10 years ago, the London NHM cleverly manufactured a controversy when they announced they'd be replacing Dippy the Diplodocus in their main hall with a blue whale skeleton.
Long story short, the whale rules, in spite of its notable handicap of not being a dinosaur. đ§”

Wow, nature is too cool! Structures on stinkbug hind legs that used to be interpreted as ears are actually chambers with fungi. The bugs coat their eggs in those fungi to protect them against parasitoid wasps. đ§Ș

Added a few newly collected Ichneumon species to Ichneumonids of North America. Amazingly, I've found 31 different species based on females when records only show 4 for the state! Compare that with 57 species in Main, which is probably a fairly complete inventory.

Small clay model of a four-legged animal standing sedately. Thereâs a human figure for scale (Coryphodon shoulders are chest high)
Coryphodon now in head down charging pose. Life sized model in milled foam in a warehouse setting
Finished model painted blue with white cut-out skull and femur. Elbow resting on a bucket
Finished model installed in gallery on yellow platform, surrounded by illuminated illustrations of other animals
A few behind-the-scenes photos of Minimalist Coryphodon. After a couple colleagues expressed disappointment that our âgiantâ of the Paleocene wasnât all that giant, I pushed for a more agro pose.
I wanted visitors to leave understanding that an animal this size could easily crush them!
Original drawing from Guillaume-Antoine Olivier of a Megasoma gyas, a huge dark beetle with golden hair and huge horns on torso and head.
Iâm (finally) reading about Dynastinae morphological character and I stumbled upon Guillaume-Antoine Olivier, who described many species such as Megasoma gyas... in 1789 and in the following years.
I like to imagine the guy "Yeah France is on fire rn but Iâm going to describe my insects tyvm"
