NHS Gothic by John Wharton | A collection of hospital hauntings A hospital at night. Empty corridors. The sense of something that shouldn't be there. “It was 02:17. That hour again — the one that stretched too long, when the lights hummed and even the air seemed to wait... she felt wrong. Off balance. Watched. The panel glowed red: ROOM SIX. The door was ajar. She was certain she’d closed it... A shape stood inside, pale against the dim light... She pushed the door open. Empty.” In this special collection, a series of interconnected tales unfold within the sterile, familiar world of the medical field, where routine meets the unexplained, and the night shift reveals what daylight keeps hidden. Doors open when they shouldn’t, rooms aren’t as empty as they appear, and something always seems to be watching. NHS Gothic is a collection of paranormal horror stories exploring unease, isolation, and the quiet terror of places built to preserve life… If you enjoy this episode, continue your listening with: Blackdamp (a tense and claustrophobic tale where unseen forces prove deadly) It Shows Up When It’s Needed (a haunting story where presence emerges at moments of vulnerability) The Thing in the Wall (a nightmare that crosses into reality, where something shouldn’t exist) About the Author John Wharton writes atmospheric horror grounded in familiar, real-world environments — bringing the supernatural into places we trust. NHS Gothic blends everyday routine with creeping unease, where the ordinary becomes something far more disturbing. Submit your story: Have a paranormal or supernatural tale? Flash Fiction - Tales of Unease (excerpts) by Elizabeth Wilson | Short, eerie, twisted tales A collection of 3 strange micro-tales... “A just perceptible sigh came from the thing in his hand, and a dark, rich brown powder appeared. Like smoke, it drifted into the air just past his face and blew towards the fence before vanishing…” In this Flash Fiction Friday episode, we present three short, unsettling tales, each offering a glimpse into something strange, fleeting, and quietly disturbing. Not every horror needs time to unfold, sometimes, a single moment is enough. These bite-sized stories explore the uncanny, the surreal, and the uneasy feeling that something is just slightly… wrong. If you enjoy this episode, continue your listening with: Spores (a deeply unsettling story where something unfamiliar begins to take hold) Folded In (a strange and disorienting tale where reality begins to shift) The Thing in the Wall (a creeping horror where an entity crosses from imagination into the real world) About the Author Elizabeth Wilson is a mixed media artist and writer from Victoria, Australia, whose work blends gothic imagery, dark humour, and the surreal. Her stories often explore fleeting, uncanny moments that linger long after they’ve passed. Her projects include Mulberry Manor and There’s A Shoggoth In My Bath, with her collection Tales of Unease currently in development.Find more from Elizabeth Wilson: Instagram: @elizabeth_the_dollmaker Bluesky: elizabethdollmaker.bsky.social Email: Submit your story: Have a paranormal or supernatural tale? S02 - Ep11 - The Swaying Woman of Skelton Wharf by Max T. Storey (A ghost story) A childhood ghost experience ties into an ghostly encounter decades later... “I cowered beneath the duvet, pulling it up to my nose, my eyes just peeking over the edge as I watched her loom above me. She seemed impossibly tall, towering over me, and for a moment we just stared at each other. A few seconds — but it felt like a lifetime. Then she lifted her veil…” Hello and welcome, dear listeners, to Haunted UK Fiction – a sister podcast to The Haunted UK which features original flash fiction, short stories, and novellas with paranormal themes. All stories you will hear were written by a collection of talented writers, authors, and storytellers, both independent and professional. In today’s episode we’ll be reading The Swaying Woman of Skelton Wharf which was sent in to us by Max T. Storey, who based his work on his first paranormal experience – which we won’t go into in depth to avoid spoilers! The first part of this story is based on his experience, whilst part 2 is based on a mixture of people, places, and life choices from both his past and present. He says he did get closure a few years after the events that inspired this story as he gained a better understanding of what he had experienced that night. The Unquiet Journals’ written by Max T. Storey, was released last December and features The Swaying Woman of Skelton Wharf (Extended version) and six other paranormal stories based in the North East of England. Each one is inspired by local stories or elements of his life. Max is also currently working on The Spectral Pastures podcast, a show where he’ll explore visits to haunted locations and their history. Spectral Pastures is due to come out in early 2026. We truly hope you enjoy this this twisted, haunted tale. If you would like to hear more from Max T. Storey, you can find social media links and contact information below: SOCIAL MEDIA: @MaxTStorey and @thespectralpastures If you have an original story that would send a chill down our spines, and you would like to submit it for review, simply send it in to mailto:hauntedukfiction@hotmail.com Until next time, stay safe, and take care. Cars were rushing past, but none slowed, and Lisa wondered if Willerby was being forgotten…” Hello and welcome, dear listeners, to Haunted UK Fiction – a sister podcast to The Haunted UK which features original flash fiction, short stories, and novellas with paranormal themes. S02 - Ep08 - Sukie in the Graveyard by Robert McDermott (a touching ghost story) A quiet afternoon in a graveyard becomes something lasting and bittersweet... “What struck me about the cemetery, aside from the pounding heat, was the serene atmosphere. There was a keenly felt tranquillity to the place which enhanced every aspect of the experience. The definition on the faces of the strikingly realistic statues, the stately mausoleums and the vividness of the ivy snaking up the ornate crypts like verdant tattoos gave the place a sense of life. It was surreal and difficult to articulate. This was a place existing in the space between both words and worlds…” Hello and welcome, dear listeners, to Haunted UK Fiction – a sister podcast to The Haunted UK which features original flash fiction, short stories, and novellas with paranormal themes.
