“I think it’s a real mistake to forget where the pipeline for all this begins.”
John Diffley reflects on the importance of basic research, his mission to decode DNA replication and recreate it in the lab, and the scientific optimism of the 1960s that helped shape it.

Superb. Highly deserved Maryse.
This immunogen is cheap and easy to produce and elicits a high quality antibody response. Project led by @nawsadalam. Read all about it:

New work out, with webtool to compare P. #knowlesi and P. #vivax temporal expression of the IDC (orthologs, or any gene of interest)🔥🔥
Reconfirming the suitability of Pk A1H1 as a model for Pv!
New PNAS study identifies ESBX, a protein controlling which surface coat gene is active in sleeping sickness parasites - key to immune evasion.

Are you a highly motivated molecular parasitologist excited to study how Plasmodium parasites invade red blood cells?
Come and join our collaborative Wellcome Trust-funded project!
We have two 3-year postdoc positions available. 👇🏻

Excited about parasites? Love watching movies? Come join our Wellcome-funded project! Parasitology friends, please do share far and wide.
Check out our latest study on the PfRIPR protein,
essential for the malaria parasite to get inside our blood cells. We show how antibodies block the function of PfRIPR by preventing its flexible hinges from bending, or by stopping it from compacting as part of its mechanism.
Superb! Well done. Cannot wait to explore the data.
Here is hoping that been given a new opportunity, finally, the courage is there within the directive of the Royal Society to do the right thing.
It is a stain on a world-leading institution. Would the decision to expel a fellow been more forthcoming if the person wasn’t as rich and politically influential (?still)? Sometimes in life you have to show courage because it is the right thing to do. This is one of these situations!
A reminder that Elon Musk is still a Fellow of the Royal Society. Surely THIS is the point at which he is expelled @royalsociety.org
Well done Bishara!
Happy to share that the #KnuepferLab has initiated change in culture at the #RoyalVeterinaryCollege as the first lab to participate in the lab sustainability challenge, LEAF. Onwards and upwards!
Our paper has finally graduated from pre-print to peer-reviewed, pretty much unscathed, and is out now! www.cell.com/cell/fulltex...

Fantastic discovery. Beautiful work! Well done the whole international team. @parasitematt.bsky.social
When are you coming to the RVC to give a talk now @sam-chamberlain.bsky.social ?
Looking for a fully-funded D. Phil. / Ph.D. studentship in structural biology and vaccinology? Come to join our team. Fully and generously funded by a donation from the Kyner-Field family with full fees at overseas level. Join us!

Nawsad presented our structure-guided design of RH5top, our latest blood stage-malaria vaccine immunogen, in talk and poster at the Malaria Gordon conference. The culmination of many studies from the lab and collaborators and doing well in pre-clinical testing! More soon.
Please consider applying for a post doc in our lab if you have bioinformatics and wet lab skills, and are interested in parasites!

Hear, hear.
Fossils of Mesozoic monotremes are VERY rare so this is a big deal. I'm not aware of other Mesozoic monotreme postcrania. Just jaws/?skull bits and teeth.
Crick researchers have uncovered how the intestinal Cryptosporidium parasite uses a protein to alter its host’s gut environment, enabling the parasite to survive and replicate.
