A few people have replied to my Artemis posts with links to Gil Scott-Heron's "Whitey on the Moon." Here's a story from Space.com about Artemis II pilot Victor Glover, currently en route to fly around the Moon, and his connection to that piece. www.space.com/space-explor...

Soon after ('58? '59) Jack Paar ran this with a straight face on NBC.
She is lovely and the Balts have given her a superb context.
Very lovely images! What boat, and where, please?
Cool! Will watch for it.
Agree with Thanos:
Shout-out to @edashtonwriting.bsky.social as I've finished reading his fine recent novel "After the Fall". Ed, I very much enjoyed AtF; it's a worthy addition to your collected works. (Dana is my favorite character.) Now I shall eagerly await whatever you have coming to us next!

Cover of "After the Fall" by Edward Ashton. Under a fiery-colored overcast a gray sculpted bust of a wolf's head, the creature being attired in a vested suit.
Ahoy, @edashtonwriting.bsky.social, look at what my excellent county librarian has lent to me this day! Much looking forward to diving into it this evening; will check back in a couple of days.
The ACA signatories on Ms. Bromwell's pictured license, Alan R. Hawley and Augustus Post, were also fascinating individuals. A few minutes with their respective Wikipedia articles is time well spent.
I've often called it the Chemical Warfare Department.
More of these, please
HMS Campbeltown after the St Nazaire raid, 28 March 1942. German Federal Archives image, Creative Commons licence CC BY SA 3.0. Description: a black and white photograph of the forward portion of a warship lodged at an angle against the structures of a harbour, badly damaged and wreathed in smoke. A group of men can be seen just beyond her bows, surveying the scene from the quayside.
28 Mar 1942 // Destroyer HMS Campbeltown (ex USS Buchanan) was expended as an explosive blockship in the St Nazaire raid: she rammed the dry dock gate, and wrecked the dock when her charges detonated. Image shows her before the explosion (Bundesarchiv CC BY SA 3.0). #RoyalNavy #WW2 #NavalHistory
The lady in the photo had a REALLY interesting biography!
Kaia Kraml: They were also carrying out a carpet or some sort of rug and also throwing it in the back of the truck ... So we were watching the scene and I turned to Chad and I was like ... "What is going on?" And Chad looked at me and he said, "Kaia, I think they finally killed him." Peter Van Sant: And did - the two of you ever think we should share what we've witnessed with the police? Kaia Kraml: Absolutely not. Chad Kraml: No. As a matter of fact -
Peter Van Sant: Because - Kaia Kraml: He was horrible. And soon after that night, they say Connie and Austin seemed completely different. Kaia Kraml: It was good. It was fun to see them actually happy
live your life in such a way that when your neighbors maybe see you murdered by your wife and kid they’re not like “thank god! it’s nice to see them happy for once!” www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/gar...
My fave Garner tale is that ostensibly each day, he'd ask the crew, "Do we wanna make money, or get home?"
If they said money, he'd stretch and ask for multiple takes so they could get paid more.
If they said home, he'd work tight and fast so they could wrap early.
That's a thoughtful gentleman.
I infer we are talking about an "aircraft-fuel tank" and not an "aircraft fuel-tank". Yes?
Art Raymond was a damned genius, amirite?
the terms “very seriously injured/ill” (VSI) and “seriously injured” (SI) mean very specific things within DoD:
- VSI: death is more likely than not to occur within 72 hours
- SI: death is possible but not likely within 72 hours; injury is permanent, life-altering, or need extended hospitalization
Y'all *need* to read Colleen's linked piece. She's done the digging and has the receipts.

So how should I react to a USNI article that includes the phrase "Columbia class attack boats"? (I stopped reading there.)
I-168 was the boat that administered the coup de grace to already badly damaged USS Yorktown at Midway also sinking destroyer USS Hammann in the same attack. She'd be sunk with loss of all hands in July '43 by USS Scamp after a failed torpodo attack on Scamp. (You come at the King, best not miss.)
