T is OK for cis women but not trans men.
Puberty blockers are OK for cis kids but illegal for trans kids.
You see it, right? You see what this is?

An article in the Times today by Kathleen Stock in which she claims, incorrectly, that ‘when the gay rights cause first got going, the ideal was toleration’.
To correct the record:
The gay rights movement I was a part of in the 1980s and 90s was not aiming for ‘toleration’.
Mere acceptance was not enough.
How would that help the isolated queer kid?
No. We wanted that child to know they would be loved and celebrated just as they were.
I am so saddened and sickened at what that charity has become.
Wow, it's not even 1000 and I've wanted to rage quit twice. How is your Tuesday going?

Billie Holiday records one of her signature songs: Strange Fruit. The co-founder of Atlantic Records called it "the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement."
Billie was bisexual and had relationships with actress Tallulah Bankhead and socialite Louise Crane.
😂😂
I feel this deep in my bones.

Happy 80th birthday to Tim Curry who has always, *always* understood the assignment.
You remember it so it left an impression!
One thing that struck me was how beloved Beryl and her work still are. There was such joy in the space.

Bad girl Mae West is sentenced to 10 days in jail for obscenity in her play Sex. She serves 8 days, getting out early for good behaviour. Over 325k people saw the play before the arrest...
West was an ally to the queer community and advocated for gay rights.
It is! I saw it yesterday and it was such joy
Anyone who still has “huge respect” for JK Rowling after Everything she’s said and done has definitionally no respect for trans people
She has such a distinctive style and keen eye.

These ladies know a total hottie when they see one, and you can enjoy the view too if you pre-order Hotties in Art (or get yourself down to the Beryl Cook: Pride and Joy exhibition at The Box in Plymouth)

Joan of Arc was beatified #OTD by Pope Pius X (The Church is certain she's in Heaven and can intercede on one's behalf through prayer).
Joan has long been considered queer. Vita Sackville-West described her as lesbian and Leslie Feinberg considers Joan trans.
Congrats 🎉🥳🥳🥳🥳

Egyptian-Greek poet, journalist and civil servant C.P. Cavafy was born in Alexandria. David Hockey was inspired by CP's poems after stealing a copy of his work from Bradford Library. He later illustrated an edition of Cavafy's work.
Happy birthday 🎂🎂

It was ruled by a judge that Trans tennis player Reneé Richards would be allowed to play in the US Open. The Supreme Court Justice A.M. Ascione said that any chromosome test was "grossly unfair, discriminatory and inequitable and violative of her rights."
She just wants to have fun.
I've had a LOT of fun curating this book. 😂
Amazing!

News spreads that the Finnish post office will release a set of stamps featuring art by Tom Of Finland.
Stamps represent the nation that issued them, making this a huge statement for how Finland see their Tom.
There's more of Tom's work in Hotties in Art!
The book cover for Belfastmen: An Intimate History of Life before Gay Liberation. It shows two men sat on a bench in the 1930s.
"Belfastmen: An Intimate History of Life before Gay Liberation" is published TODAY by @cornellupress.bsky.social! I tell the story of how queer men didn't just exist in Belfast but could be accepted by friends, family & colleagues... at least until a moral panic about homosexuality in the 1950s. 🧵

Kinky Boots, the film based on the documentary about how a traditional shoe manufacturers in Northampton pivoted to making shoes for Drag performers (it was later adapted into a hit musical!) got a limited cinema release in the US #OTD.
Imagine a study that found kids with ADHD have more visits to doctors than kids without ADHD — and used that finding to suggest ADHD treatment doesn't work. That's the standard of evidence the anti-trans braintrust is willing to accept.

The cry of Queer Nation, a queer activitist collective. #OTD they staged their 1st action at Flutie's Bar in NYC. Their aim was to show that queer socialising and affection should not be confined to queer spaces.
