ICYMI I shared some ideas for using @dhawards.bsky.social to introduce various ways into the field for students.

The western sky a few minutes after sunset. The clouds glow bright orange-pink over the roof and tree tops
Lovely sky tonight
We uncovered a vast surveillance empire whose untraceable tech has been used to target people in more than 100 countries, including the US. It has operated under the radar for decades.
Until now.
SoCal beach close to sunset. The sky and clouds glow orange over lapping waves
Spent the weekend reconnecting with two dear friends in town for a conference. We haven’t seen each other in a decade+, with only sporadic contact in the intervening years. Our long overdue reunion made last night’s sunset all the more magical
The results for #DH Awards 2025 are now live. Sorry if your favoured resource did not win in this openly nominated, openly voted #DigitalHumanities awareness activity. There's no real prize (winners may use the associated icon), other than everyone seeing the resources.

If AI is so great at worker replacement, show me the proof: replace your c-suite with chatbots. Let’s see how it goes.
Either it will suck and fail miserably, undermining the claims of what it can do, or we’ll discover that the management class can’t justify its existence.
I’ll wait. 🍿🍿
Noting that I mistakingly referred to this bird-monstrosity as a pigeon, rather than a seagull, in my alt text. Whatever “bird” it is, it makes no sense for it to have human arms. I can’t begin to imagine the marketing meeting that led to this
A bus stop billboard promoting green bin composting. A pigeon sits on a green bin with two speech bubbles. The first bubble says “put your food scraps in the green bin!” And the second bubble said “stay scrappy, San Diego.” Bizarrely the pigeon has human arms crossed across its bird chest
Is this a billboard promoting city-wide composting or a billboard warning against AI image generation? Why? WHY?!
Heavy is the head…
Have started referring to hardcore AI evangelists as three chat bots in a trench coat.
Yes! We bought licenses for all our laptops. I think 1 USB license is reasonably priced. This version is pretty close to the original. One of our students recently built a Windows98 virtual machine to run the original, and it was so neat to see it in action
You can get an emulation of Patchwork Girl for Mac (not sure about Windows) that’s pretty close to the original. We assign it in all our electronic literature classes and the students absolutely love it
1st viz I made, thread colors=sleep quality. 2nd year was hrs of sleep. This year I got more granular w the amount of sleep represented (30 minute increments). Beads = types of sleep disruptions (can’t fall asleep, up in the middle of the night, etc). Still don’t know how to rep naps in all of this
I’d love nothing more than to mail you a bunch. Let me know how many and I’ll get that sent out asap
OMG YESSSS 😍
It’s the sparkle we all need right now ✨
A 3” round sticker featuring a glittery hand-drawn disco ball reflecting the colors of the rainbow. A pink circle surrounds the disco ball, with “Digital Humanities Center” at the top and our URL at the bottom in yellow caps that evokes a computer font. Emoji sparkles are drawn on the left and right side of the pink circle
I love the way the glitter catches the light. It really looks like a disco! It was hand drawn on a tablet by our students, who then played around with fonts & colors. This is a prototype for our annual DH showcase. We’ll continue tweaking colors and fonts to make it even more legible #DHmakes

Our new stickers arrived!!! Created by our student employees and inspired by our new disco ball, it’s yet another reminder to seek joy and pleasure in our #DigitalHumanities work 🪩🤩

'In a way, the archive may act akin to the institution itself, dressing harm and isolation in the language of “care,” and participating in epistemic injustice against people with disabilities and their many “ways of knowing.”' #CripLib
Congrats to all who were accepted for ACH 2026! The conference team reminds you to please confirm your acceptance by Friday, May 1. Questions? Visit ach2026.ach.org

This newly (re-)discovered 1897 Méliès film sits delightfully at the intersection of film history and the history of robots/automatons 🎥🤖

So excited to work with @plach.bsky.social on a series of pre-conference workshops. The goal is to build out the kinds of teaching and learning we want to see at the core of @ach.bsky.social. A great set of opening offerings that I'm over the moon to see. More info -

We've published some exciting archives-related articles this year and would like to accept more submissions like these, but we need your help!
Please share this call for volunteers to serve on the editorial board with your #archives colleagues
In Brief: How do information workers resist the creation of archival “deathworlds”? With rising eugenicist rhetoric in the United States, sites of cultural memory face devastating impacts. These consequences are particularly felt by Disabled and multiply-marginalized communities. This article draws on Disability Justice principles and necropolitical framings to investigate how processes of erasure can be interrupted through active collaboration and critical reevaluation of power-sharing. By supporting alternative forms of knowledge sharing and honoring the lived experience of historically marginalized communities, especially those who have faced forced institutionalization, we hope to craft alternative methodologies that center community involvement and self-determination.
