Absolute and relative intensity physical activity of children with healthy and low levels of cardiorespiratory fitness

Quantifying both the
absolute & relative intensity of accelerometer-assessed PA outcomes can provide greater insights than either alone!
Authors of a new commentary argue that while digital technologies create opportunities for data-driven learning and interventions, they also raise important challenges around equity, privacy, and health data literacy -- especially for children.

I contributed to two preprints published last week which consider issues around assessing the relative intensity of physical activity in research studies. Links: osf.io/preprints/ps... and doi.org/10.1101/2025...
IJBNPA, the official journal of @isbnpa.bsky.social, is looking to increase capacity in a few key areas to maintain high quality, timely handling, and decision-making for all manuscripts. Complement our team with appropriate expertise in physical activity, behavioral nutrition, and related areas.
I've posted a Euraxess advert for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship project under Horizon Europe, focused on accelerometer methods for assessing children's physical activity.
I’d be grateful for shares and reposts! 🙏

Our study provides evidence for the validity & reliability of the PL-C Quest among boys and girls in UK primary schools. PL-C Quest can be used by practitioners & researchers alike to assess children’s perceived physical literacy to provide measurable impact on practice, programmes, and policy.
We used the original PL-C Quest with over 600 children in England. The PL-C Quest items loaded on overall physical literacy as well as each of the physical, social, psychological, & cognitive physical literacy domains.
New paper from our group expertly led by Dr Richard Tyler & Dr Mhairi MacDonald: Validity and reliability of the physical literacy in children questionnaire (PL-C Quest) for primary school children aged 8 to 11 years. Journal pre-proof:

Some highlights of my week ahead...2 meetings about NIHR child #physicalactivity grant applications, giving a webinar on accelerometers in PA research, free-living PA validation of machine learning models project meeting, knowledge exchange staff development session... (1/2)
This systematic review concluded that 'healthy’ and ‘unhealthy’ clusters remained highly stable over time:

I'm doing a thing today in memory of my mum and dad (and for myself) but most importantly raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Sport England's annual Active Lives Survey for children published today: www.sportengland.org/news-and-ins.... Headlines are that self-reported PA has remained stable overall & across groups. IMO the most interesting stuff is in the linked data tables showing local/regional data.
Thanks Ben, looking forward to some overdue positive and constructive social media interactions!
Thanks Ben, please do add me too!
