My child is training for their cross country race and I’m doing what I can to support them by going for runs. I don’t go fast and we don’t necessarily go all that far, but gradationally, we are building up.

Maybe (probably) I don’t have the spoons for a whole work out, washing all the dishes, writing an entire chapter. And that’s okay. I can do 5 sit ups, or even just one. I can wash the dish I need for the food I’m wanting to eat right now. I can write a sentence or a couple plot points.

My word of the year is Gradational. It’s exciting to see it play out in my every day choices. For example, I have the motto “more than zero” for getting things done.

Genuinely love our community in Ottawa and wanted to share a thank you to her.
An elderly lady catches up to me and asks if she can help. I grateful say yes, and she carries the tp packages to where our paths diverge then assists in stacking the packages in a way where they won’t succeed in their quest for freedom.
It kept moving lower and nearly escaping its trip home and fleeing to the sidewalk. So there I am walking 20 steps, pausing to perform awkward maneuvers to get the packages back under my arm, rinse and repeat.
The post author (Ela Meadows) tilts her head up to the sunshine filtering through the branches and leaves of a city tree.
I was out picking up groceries and saw Canadian toilet paper on sale so got two. My plan was that I’d tuck them under my arm.
Turns out the plastic slid against itself very well...

Cover of the picture book Yetsa's Sweater by Sylvia Olsen, Illustrated by Joan Larson. An elderly indigenous woman sits on a chair knitting a Cowichan sweater with her granddaughter kneeling beside her and watching.
Yetsa's Sweater is a heartwarming story that blends many ways of knowing into an accessible children's picture book.
Written by Sylvia Olsen, a non-indigenous woman who lived in the Tsartlip First Nation for many years.

Thanks for sharing! I'll have to wait to check it out though because I've so far avoided spoilers <3
Thanks for sharing I am looking forward to it!
I am still in the first season but the highlights have been (in order)
Rosa
Demons of the Punjab
The Ghost Monument
The Woman Who Fell to Earth
Jodie Whittaker as The Doctor (A woman with a blonde bob wearing blue pants, a navy top with stripes across it, suspenders, and a grey trench coat) stands on a grassy hill area with the TARDIS behind her.
I finally got the Jodie Whittaker era Doctor Who seasons from the Library.
My gosh they are amazing so far!
I expected to hate them because of the negative press but it feels like a cross with original Old Who and the Tennant era.

Thank you for sharing 💜. Without spoilers, establishing reincarnation early on had me terrified whenever anything suspicious was happening because it never felt like everything was just "safe."
Cover of the audiobook version of "A Dog's Purpose" by W. Bruce Cameron and read by William Dufris featuring a young red golden retriever dog looking straight ahead
The Audio book of "A Dog's Purpose" broke me, put me back together, and broke me again over and over and I can't recommend it enough. It felt very much like a dog version of "Black Beauty."

Ela J. Meadows - a curvy woman with shoulder length brown hair wearing an ivory corset and white skirt sits on a log over a lake holding her service dog a small black poodle mix
Profile Photo Update: My sister, cousin and I had a grand time playing with my corset and lace skirt at the family cottage.
It's one of the places I feel most relaxed and at home. This is the first year I've had cell service. There's still no power or potable water. It feels peaceful and restful.

A Great Blue Heron graced me with their presence while I was kayaking at the family cottage.

I think it would annoy me but I might be able to get used to it similarly to how the Hunger Games First Person Present was hard to get into but then I stopped noticing it.
It could work as a niche style especially for something like a short story where it doesn't go on and on?
A close up shot of river water splashing up and spinning in the air as it tumbles over rapids.
Eddying whirlpools
Swirl around in toxic tides

This is the cutest ever! Adding it to my list of books to dream about!
A grey haired man wearing a green sweater sits in front of a paper easel drawing a house. The text on the bottom reads "I'm not very good at it. But it doesn't matter."
Oooh good point! My painting skills are...lacking...but I enjoy it for relaxing

What inspires you to create?
I love interacting with all my senses: taste, touch, smell, sight, sound, as well as digging into the emotional responses they elicit.

From left to right a white horse and two bays, their women riders wearing sparkling blue tops and white chaps reading "capital cowgirls" and holding a Canadian flag or a "capital cowgirls" flag travel in sync in a dirt arena in front of a large crowd.

I've been busy enjoying summer so haven't had many opportunities to post. One outing was to see the Sunset Ride of the RCMP where we also got to watch The Capital Cowgirls!

It really does seem to shift depending on your circles. I hate it but I use it for background work or dealing with emails with toxic people sometimes, never for a finished product or anything I'd post.
That's so interesting, I've found those younger then me (I'm mind 30's) and 50+ are the most enamored with it in my sphere.
And so inspiration struck and I started writing...hours later it is well past my bed time but uh....yeah I am excited about the concept.

It goes on and on,
Lingering.
Flaring up like a perpetual abscess,
A wound that never heals,
Can never heal,
Because there is no tomorrow
For us to share.
Processing big feelings in short poetry lately.
Greif is hard to put into words.
There’s no concrete end point.
No, moment of saying,
I’ve gone through it, and it’s done.

Through my characters I get to revisit emotional beats of my life until now, dig into local lore and places in Ontario I've visited or always wanted to. There's a joy and fascination with the world around me I'm able to embrace with stories set in current-day Canada

I still love me a fantasy story, the mythical adventures, creatures, environments. Yet, I'm also enjoying writing a story set in a (albeit slightly unrealistic) present.
