From October, the TTPA means most advertising platforms are banning "political ads" in EU.
HOWEVER as far as I can tell, only Meta takes this to include "social" ads. Google & Microsoft are only banning election/legislation specific ads, not "social isses".
Is this how we're all interpreting it?

We made a tool to help charities plan smarter with #MetaAds, and we want you to have it. It’s a free forecasting template that uses your own data to build realistic expectations, align teams, and reduce pressure on planners.
We use it ourselves. Now we’re sharing it. Comment “Meta” to get a copy

Meta ads are going to get more expensive: why CRO is essential for charities in 2025 | manifesto

TLDR; if trends continue, your nonprofit can expect Meta ad costs to inc. 14%+ in 2025, which means your campaigns have to perform 14%+ better just to stay standing-still. A CRO project could get you back on the front-foot.

What to do about it?
💡 Crisis plans: Set clear protocols.
🤝 Build networks: Don’t go it alone.
📱 Diversify: Explore TikTok & others.
📋 Policies: Review, monitor and educate teams.
🗣️ Advocate: Push for better regulations.

Collaboration is key—Meta won’t help, but we can help each other.

For nonprofits, this potentially means:
1️⃣ Harder / more time-intensive community management which pulls in more stakeholders.
2️⃣ A growth in harmful content and unchecked challenges to your mission.
3️⃣ Strained resources—time, money, and expertise will be stretched thin.

Zuck’s own words: “We’re going to catch less bad stuff.” Extrapolated over 3.3bn users, that’s a staggering admission. Harmful content will slip through the cracks at an unprecedented scale. Charities, brace yourselves for misinformation storms like never before.

Meta plans to push more “political content” based on personalised signals—hello, echo chambers! Add AI-generated nonsense, and it’s a recipe for unchecked misinformation. Who fact-checks the fact-checkers in a closed loop? Spoiler: no one

Recent policy changes allow offensive language toward women and LGBTQ+ individuals. Combine this with weaker moderation & you have platforms primed for hate speech. For charities working with vulnerable audiences, the risks are big: alienated communities & eroded trust.

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

Meta says this avoids “censorship,” but let’s call it what it is: spin. Moderation is expensive, & community notes are cheaper. The cost? Users like you & me now have to call out harmful info. Remember the millions of false COVID posts Meta removed? That’s now on the public to police...for free. 😬

Meta’s replacing fact-checkers with “community notes,” shifting moderation to users. It’s a political cop-out to avoid taking responsibility for the disinformation their platforms spread. Charities will bear the brunt of this shift—more hate, less trust, and bigger resource burdens. 🧵

I'm going to write a novel about a serial killer who writes detailed public accounts of his murders online, but they're all in recipe pre-ambles so no one ever notices... I'll call it "The 'Jump-to-Recipe' Strangler"

Worryingly, Meta are making noises about restricting ad accounts of 'health' orgs, most notably that they "may" restrict all Standard & Custom Event tracking inc. CAPI

I recently saw a (very expensive) media plan that had been given to a charity with a key audience insight of: "4% of your audience would choose Emma Thompson to play them in a movie..."

How do you action that insight? 😳 and also....4%...so what?!?

(I do love Emma Thompson though)
