(Also my use of social media fell off a cliff in late October 2022, and if I am completely honest I haven't really missed it and doubt I've the time to come back much. But I wanted to archive my old Tweets somewhere, and - at least for libraries - it looks like Bluesky is that some, so here we are.)

Things that are here: old Tweets from @misterjta on Twitter.

Things that are not: old Tweets with embedded videos; old Tweets that began with RT; old Tweets which where buried in conversation threads; actual original posting dates because everything claims to be posted in March 2025.

Ethical framework The Ethical Principles and Code provides a framework to help library and information professionals who are members of CILIP, to manage the responsibilities and sensitivities which figure prominently in their work.

"Professionalism is about lived ethics, about reflective practice, and the difference that makes to your users on the front line" - @NickPoole1 at #CILIPConf23

"[if you realise you were mistaken]Β§You're allowed to change your mind. And as institutions you have to, or you're dead" - @Sathnam giving wise advice on the only sensible way to respond to what you should do with what the evidence and facts tell you #CILIPConf23

"Get over the fear of failure. Build fast, fail fast, learn fast, and move on" says @mkhokhar: we need to build a startup culture in the information profession and focus on continuous improvement - learn from industries that aren't libraries!

Inspiring #CILIPConf23 keynote!

Really excellent point by @mkhokhar: an empathetic manager is absolutely valuable, but as leaders we should work to build *structural compassion* into our organisational culture and operations, not merely functional compassion by a single manager (who might leave)! #CILIPConf23

The picture illustrates the human brain's information limit at 120 bits/second, and how that leads to attention filters, creating cognitive flexibility & ultimately polarisation.

(This is fascinating - it's probably why I struggle to listen, live-tweet, and take notes at once!) https://t.co

"#CILIPConf23 is a community of change-makers... What are the grand, unsolved problems that will drive us to new heights of creativity & move our profession forwards?" -- @NickPoole1 calls for suggestions, as well as leading a round of applause for members of the #CILIP125 List

"This might seem idealistic but I truly believe libraries are the backbone of humanity" - @Im_Negomi's first shift in a library felt like she'd come home. So glad to welcome so many idealists to their home as future leaders and members of the #CILIP125 list! #CILIPConf23

Wonderful first day of #CILIPS23, & I feel so privileged to have been here as a guest / @CILIPinfo president.

Many highlights, but I especially loved this line from this evening's fantastic speech by @nadineaishaj:

"Libraries are where stories and social justice intersect." ❀️

Delighted as @CILIPinfo today launches #CILIP125, marking 125 years since Queen Victoria granted the Royal Charter in 1898!

In 2023 we'll celebrate and reflect the people, challenges and milestones across a century-and-a-quarter of progress & innovation. http://cilip.org.uk/page/125

I mean, I mainly use Twitter for conferences, but:

1) If any wazzock with a spare $8* can buy a blue verification tick, a blue tick is literally worthless

2)...I'm forced now to think how Twitter actually adds *any value* to my life, and I'm coming up pretty empty.

It is just me, or is this an awesome example of reflective practice? Someone took past protests, thought "What could've gone better? The cameras took a moment to focus in, so there'd be more eyes on the message if there was a spare sign", and put that observation into practiceπŸ˜† https://t.co/Slj

I realise she probably has bigger things to do today, especially what with all the mistaken tags to untangle, but I think a priority for the economy really should be for @Liztruss to name @johnlewis as the new business secretary, so we can see how many news outlets go with it...

It's possibly the wine and/or the two years of pandemic talking, but the sight of librarians dancing the night away in front of a #WeAreCILIP backdrop is somehow one of the most energising and joyful things I've seen in a long time πŸ™‚ #CILIPConf22

All librarianship is political - we have to champion the most marginalised, ensure those on the frontline have our support to defend those at risk, and keep our ethics as our North star, @KrystalVittles notes.

...I would actually really like the blueprint for "an information literacy session about pirate books"! #CILIPConf22

As a child, @KrystalVittles was able to go to the library, & that experience gave her confidence to start exploring other spaces - echoes some sources of comfort people mentioned in the EDI Tips and the Psychological Security sessions.

Before Isis, the library didn't have colourful interior designs, but after seeing libraries internationally, @4sayf took responsibility to create a colourful, welcoming space.

"I am happy to see the smiles."

'Sometimes people tell me "you are crazy, how can you do this when it's so difficult?"

There's nothing difficult when you believe in it...

...here I can feel I did something. I can feel my fingerprint' - @4sayf on the efforts of rebuilding amid the pandemic. πŸ’š

"The library is sometimes destroyed by different regimes... They don't want any knowledge, they want people following them without thinking"

A globally applicable warning from recent history from @4sayf speaking in his #CILIPConf22 keynote.
