If they had just called this “The Entities” instead of “Large low-shear-velocity provinces”, kids would be more into Seismology.
(The two entities are named Tuzo and Jason).

Amazing turnout for our Day of Action to Save NASA Science! Truly inspired by the dedication of our members and advocates who are here with me in D.C.
“Take a moment to think before you dive in. That’s the best advice for Google Photos users, as the company confirms its latest update can scan all your photos to “use actual images of you and your loved ones” in AI image generation.”

Voyager 1 has had another instrument shutdown. On Friday, the team at JPL sent the command to shut off of the low energy charged particle instrument. That means that there are now only two operational science instruments on the spacecraft.

My mom passed away last summer. I'm not Catholic anymore but I for sure brought her prayer card with me into Artemis Mission Control.

So, thanks Mom, for encouraging my self-expression. Not everyone loves it and she helped me work through those situations too. 💕
She later told me that other moms were appalled, that I was ruining my chances for highschool and then for college. She looked at them and said, my daughter gets straight As, has amazing friends, comes home at night and loves her family. Why would I care what her hair looks like? Why do YOU?
This was 1983 in suburbia. This was not common. I rocked that look in jr high. I grew out a front tail and dyed it. I double pierced one ear at Claires in the mall. Mom helped me not f it all up.
My mom dyed her hair blonde for decades using Nice-n-Easy at home. One day when I was in the 7th grade, I was sitting with her in the bathroom as she was doing it, and I asked her if she would dye a blond streak in my hair. She was the kind of mom who didn't hesitate. She was into it.
I'd love to meet your mom; maybe she saw me last week sciencing the shit out of things? www.flickr.com/photos/nasa2...
Realistically there are people in society who will not take you seriously and they will use your hair (jewelry, tattoos, clothing, hobbies, etc.) as an excuse but it is just that. There are also kind, generous, smart people who see self-expression as creativity and strength.
Victor Glover on Artemis II crew dynamics:
“Yes, we get along well, but we ALSO disagree well.”
Love this framing! I tend to approach disagreements with an open mind for resolution, but I like this slight pivot in mindset.
NASA will support @esa.int's Rosalind Franklin mission. Scheduled to launch in 2028, our Mars rover will be the first ever to drill up to two metres below the Red Planet's surface, searching for signs of past or present life on Mars 🔴 go.nasa.gov/4vAIeX1
Black and white photo of Marie Maynard Daly. She is wearing a white lab coat with a striped blouse or kerchief visible beneath. Her hair is swept back and she is looking down, possibly at something on a lab bench of table. Lab cabinets mounted on a white tile wall are visible behind her, along with lab equipment sitting on a counter.
Biochemist Marie Maynard Daly, who studied correlations between heart attacks and cholesterol, and between smoking and lung disease, was born #OTD in 1921. She was the first Black woman to receive a chemistry PhD in the United States. 🧪 👩🔬

nice choice! I prefer this one, since I'm not a fan of the rainbow color ramp for topgraphy. pubs.usgs.gov/sim/3316/
The Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature provides detailed information about planetary names approved by the International Astronomical Union. Find out more about the history of planetary nomenclature, how names are approved, how to propose a name, and more!

There are many young fresh craters on the Moon that don't yet have names. NASA released a couple of the candidates for the Carroll and Integrity proposal: www.nasa.gov/blogs/missio...
You won't yet find Carroll or Integrity Craters in these tools, though, because they are proposed crater names that need to work their way through the IAU naming system. When they do, they'll be available!
For those with some experience using Earth or planetary datasets, I'd recommend QuickMap. There's a User Guide in the little gear symbol.
