@nichecanada.bsky.social has just published my "5 minute read" about the reduction/closure of #ParksCanada library services. Take a look.

It was a privilege to help organize this great event on the Future of Conservation! Thank you @cathmckenna.bsky.social for joining us for a frank and hopeful conversation. Hard things are hard! Thank you @sabinejessen.bsky.social and Lisa McLauglin @ncccnc.bsky.social for sharing with our students

Glad to see ON universities will get some reprieve, its’s absolutely necessary and long overdue. BUT. We will still be underfunded compared to 7 years ago and to all other provinces. Plus - making student loans MORE inequitable is not the answer. www.theglobeandmail.com/gift/f46fc77...
We are hiring an Assistant or Associate Professor in Indigenous Environmental Governance and Management. Very excited for this position.

So much great attention on Puerto Rico right now gracias a Bad Bunny. If you are looking to support a local organization doing fantastic work on the ground, check out casapueblo.org - in support of energy sovereignty and community well-being.
Congratulations!
Unless it is money for foreign recruitment. And where will all the fancy new federally-funded foreign scientists work exactly? At which rapidly-bankrupting institutions? The disconnect is bizarre.
Oh I know :(
Cutting this kind of irreplaceable domestic expertise, research infrastructure and long term datasets while spending billions on recruiting foreign experts seems… dumb.
3-6 months to get reviews back, sure, especially lately, but 6 months to SEND OUT?!?! That’s wild
I’m also not “that kind of doctor”, but I re-upped my MMR (measles) vaccine last year. I AM the kind of doctor who teaches about collective action, community-based efforts and public goods. Herd immunity is a public good that too may people don’t realize they have (had).
Catherine O’Hara 💔
It’s easy to be consumed by the spectacle of horror coming from our neighbours to the South. Canadian friends, don’t forget to hold our own government accountable for more than fancy speeches. Check out this 🔥 list!!
Timeline cleanse. Chester is a fan of snow days
Have seen jerks perform their collegiality quite well in interviews, only to reveal their true colors after hiring. Genuine question - do you think hiring dept knew they were hiring a jerk? (Maybe so and they’re full of 💩. But maybe not?)
People struggle with both/and. I struggle with both/and. Good reminder to not let the either/or folks drag down the good work we all need to do.
If only my institution had an account to tag 🙄
Friends, I’d like to show @ucalgary.bsky.social that @bsky.app is where the cool kids hang out and that they should start posting here more and less/none at TheBadPlace™️. Show them some love by reskeeting this 100000000x. 🧪
What to do when the world gets you down? Practice gratitude. This week working to nominate two deserving colleagues for awards. Grateful to know and work with good people!!

Will the ON govt finally listen, before post secondary education in the province is completely destroyed ? www.theglobeandmail.com/gift/f46fc77...
Are those knowingly submitting crap and publishing in predatory publishers blameless? Are those creating the incentives blameless? Are those who popularized the APC model of OA blameless?

This is incredible, thank you for sharing!
I am so sad to see this. Kristina Gjerde worked tirelessly, for decades, to protect the high seas. The entry into force this year of the BBNJ agreement owes much to her skillful work and patience with the long game of international law and diplomacy. A true ocean champion.
With which professors, at which (oversaturated, underfunded, understaffed) universities, for which jobs?
Lots of Canadian press pointing at this without looking at the actual case in the country.
“We have lost an emphasis on community” describes so many of our current problems. Measles is a collective action problem that WE SOLVED, only to unsolve. Hats off to this massive data collection/viz effort.
