PS: The amount of text space available in the ALT text window is several times longer than what's available in the standard text field, so even long text passages can be pasted there. If you run out of space, break up the screenshot; it's probably too long at that point for just one post anyway.
1. Alt text is always a kindness and also extends the audience for what you want to present.
2. Screenshot the material, then go to the original and copy the text with your cursor, post the screenshot, then paste the text into the ALT field. Super-simple and takes only a couple of seconds.
If you're non-disabled and are furious about recent ableist comments, one material thing you can do is ask disabled and chronically ill people in your life if they need help with anything. They may say no and respect that, but we live in an ableist society where asking for help is hard.
You know what really unhelpful alt text is? "a screenshot of a tweet from [person]". Helpful is including the text of the tweet.
