The front cover of Issue 7 of Volume 229 of Journal of Experimental Biology. The journal title is at the top of the cover. Beneath it is The Integrative Biology of Exercise logo, including a flying goose, a trout making a turn and a dumbbell weight. The Company of Biologists logo is in the bottom left of the image. In the top left it states: Special Issue, The Integrative Biology of Exercise, followed by the names of the Guest Editors Erika Eliason, Christopher Guglielmo, Natalie Holt and Monica Daley
Issue 7, a Special Issue dedicated to The Integrative Biology of Exercise has closed and issue 8 has opened

Our latest work on shape-programmable tissues is out in @science.org. By positioning topological defects in cellular nematics, we encode frustrated 2D force fields that relax into predictable 3D shapes. Collaboration with Marino Arroyo’s lab, led by @pauguillamat.bsky.social at @ibecbarcelona.eu.
🎉 Great success for our 2nd SFBD-SBCF science outreach day in Ivry-sur-Seine, with the support of the city!
Over a thousand children came to take part in our workshops, led by around fifty researchers from institutes in Paris and Gif-sur-Yvette! Thank you all for your enthusiasm! 🔬🧬

Rainbow shading of a confocal micrograph of a developing mouse neural tube. The protein actin is stained and colored in rainbow to indicate depth in the section.
Happy #FluorescenceFriday! This is a maximum intensity projection of depth shaded actin (🌈) in a section from an E9.5 🐭 neural tube (NT). 🔬 by postdoc @christinaadaly.bsky.social 👩🔬 🧪 Image shows the floor plate and lumen of the developing NT.

A bit delayed, but excited to still share our latest paper, showing that intercellular forces transduced by E-cadherin activate EGFR-ERK signaling in epithelia by inducing EGFR ligand shedding! Mechanical and biochemical signals can act together within a single, linear cascade! tinyurl.com/mr9mj9j2
Katia took the initiative to start a Xenopus project in the lab a few years ago —and now her work is highlighted by Development! Huge congrats, Katia!
#jobAlert We are hiring! If you like #imaging ,gene regulation and a dynamic group please apply. We are looking for a research assistant with a master degree and prior experience in academia.
Our paper is now published! The first encounter of a forming organism with bacteria reveals that innate immunity initiates in epithelial cells of early embryos, even in humans. www.cell.com/cell-host-mi...

If you’ve ever wondered how those intricate gill structures emerge—and how gills develop throughout a zebrafish’s lifespan—check out my new preprint!
We dive into the development of gills and their vasculature in detail.

What is buckling, and why is it relevant in understanding epithelial morphogenesis? 🧐
I am @onenimesa.bsky.social and I will share some papers to understand this aspect of #EpithelialMechanics
🚨📣 New preprint alert!
Excited to share my new postdoc work on direct force and mechanical properties measurements in live embryos!

Left: Expression of Notch3 (white) detected by whole mount RNAscope ISH in an E8.5d wild-type embryo, shown in frontal views (top, cranial part of the embryo) and transverse section (bottom). Filled and empty arrowheads point to high and low expression, respectively. Right: Segmentation of the cardiac region in 3D images, to quantify gene expression in the left (white) or right (yellow) heart field. The heart tube is colored in red. Somites are outlined by white dotted lines. Expression of Notch3 within the segmented second heart field is extracted in the right panel.
