A little time available to do some sightseeing. The Getty Museum and Institute, Hogwarts (aka Universal Studios), the Hollywood Bowl, and the iconic sign in the Hollywood hills. #MSFS2024 #FlightSim #Aviation #AVGeek

From Silicon Valley to LA and Hollywood, with a CJ3 sector from San Jose to Van Nuys.
I enjoyed passing waypoints such as HEVVY, ROKKR, HIHWY, MAIDN, ZEPPE, YUTOO, PRPLE; Spot a theme?

Today, 21st April, is the centenary of the birth of Queen Elizabeth II. To commemorate this, a flight in the "Queen's Flight" RJ70 (IRL a BAE-146) from RAF Northolt, over Buckingham Palace, to Queen Elizabeth II International Airport, Le Touquet, France(!) . #MSFS2024 #FlightSim #Aviation #AVGeek

Talk about an inconvenient moment for the computer to freeze! But I'm a great advocate of FSiPanel.com to set up approaches and recover from crashes, and it scores your landings too!

Third time lucky for this Fenix A320 (with HUES additions) flight from Easyjet's now fully opened base at Newcastle to Nice. Very glitchy though- a CTD over Congleton, then a full system freeze on late RNAV final to Nice 22R. But the final landing was worth it! #MSFS2024 #FlightSim #Aviation #AVGeek

Simón Bolívar - Wikipedia

So who was Simón Bolívar? I'd heard the name, and he seems to have lent his name to many places, organisations (and airports!). Read more about him here:

Now the aircraft should be perfectly flyable on two engines, but the Pilots/SWS Dash 7 started behaving very strangely! Some artificial intervention was required to get things back on track! The deep cleaning team has been booked to sort out the cabin...

It also seemed to be a first flight for the Dash7 for me in #MSFS2024, and setting up the 4 throttles for 2 levers on my quadrant when engines were running caused some issues- fuel flow was affected, no audible warning and caused engines 1&2 to fail near to landing. #Flightsim #Aviation #AVGeek

Conviasa (Venezuela's national airline) has a rather chequered history safetywise, & the DHC7 used here once performed a belly landing when the gear failed. But I liked the Dash7 in #MSFS2020, & this flight from Simón Bolívar (Santa Marta) to Simón Bolívar (Caracas) explored new territory for me.

Real 737 Pilot Takes the RJ100 into Colombia’s most EXTREME airports in MSFS 2024 YouTube video by flightdeck2sim

The Columbian route was inspired by flightdeck2sim's live stream last weekend, where he tried to take an Avro RJ from north to south. Particularly challenging at Manziales which is only rated for turboprops, but he managed it (just). www.youtube.com/live/iSgwSTF...

Back in Columbia we fly north, still in the Fokker F27, from Manziales to the coast & Santa Marta, landing at Simon Bolivar airport. Despite all I've read/seen about tips for landing the F27, it's not easy managing the power smoothly- it seems ultra sensitive. #MSFS2024 #Flightsim #Aviation #AVGeek

(3/3) We passed Bournemouth and into the Solent, overflew Hurst Castle and Lighthouse, up Southampton Water to the docks, finally landing at Southampton airport. What a great sight, both looking from the Spitfire and towards it!

(2/3) My route followed the south coast along the Jurassic Coast of Dorset, Chesil Beach, Lulworth Cove, Swanage Bay, Poole Harbour and Brownsea Island, similar but not identical to the actual route which I didn't see until after my flight.

(1/3) Today saw the last of nine commemorative flights to mark the 90th anniversary of the first Spitfire flight. Today's route was from Exeter to Southampton where that 1936 test flight took place.

Our next destination, north from Antonio Narino to Manziales, the coffee capital of Columbia (according to our SayIntentions flight attendant),La Nubia airport has a challenging, short runway, so the F27 seemed like a good choice- & it was, landing power apart! #MSFS2024 #Flightsim #Aviation #AVGeek

Antonio Narino Airport sits on top of a high plateau surrounded by hills and deep valleys and, although we didn't get to try the spectacular "circle-to-land" approach, it was nonetheless a very scenic arrival! #MSFS2024 #Flightsim #Aviation #AVGeek

I gave a full report of the SI ATC issues to their bug report system and to be fair they replied quickly having reviewed the flight (their logs are v.detailed) & acknowledged that their AI controllers had screwed up spectacularly- the data will be used to help fix the various Swiss cheese bug holes.

Fortunately GPWS and terrain radar saved the day! IFR conditions, high altitude airport, & my first flight in Columbia all added to the challenge!

Some days ago, we explored the ABC islands in the Caribbean. We fly south from Curacao to Bogota with LATAM Columbia, but SayIntentions AI had a nightmare and tried hard to crash us (3 times) into the Columbian mountains!
