Watching 2001 again recently got me really fired up. SpaceChase will have a warp sequence as you chase the suspect from system to system, and it's heavily inspired by the star-tunnel sequence. Running on Acorn A3000 here. Mocked in SDL first with archie palette β€οΈ #SDL. #retrograming #indiedev

Yus indeedy! A3000 π¬
Forgot to mention, the base of the crate is filled with 12% peroxide, but the keys sit in little 'boats' on top.
Slightly OT for me, but thought I'd share how I do retrobriting (which I don't do often). It's a vapour method where the peroxide doesn't touch the keys directly. It takes a couple of weeks, but it seems to work well for me. Wish I still had the photos of the orange STE I did this on. #retrogaming
Acorn! The 8-bit Micros had the license to say BBC on them, and also the first (A3000) Archimedes. The later ones (this is an A3020) no longer had the BBC wording on them. As for the monitor saying Acorn, it's actually just a rebranded Philips CM8833, common for Amigas as well.
Todayβs retro hack job. Rustle up a scart connector so my friendly local CRT servicing guy doesnβt need to buy their own Archimedes to test it. π
Love working with debug helpers. If it might go offscreen, switch to a slower poly handler. Thank you mathematics. Running on emulated Acorn A3010/A3020 here. A3000 still the target platform for 50fps. π₯Ή Might capture some footage on my "new" CRT soon. #indiedev #retrogaming
Team NAG representing at OLL 26 today! If you're coming to Epic Studios do come and say hello to us!
It's almost supernatural how this movie from 1968 consistently looks and feels better than anything we produce today. "2001 - A Space Odyssey". And I always love that Blue Danube at the station... the inspiration for a very special game.
Good luck with the A310 cable! On-screen is a personal project based on the game Midwinter by Mike Singleton. It was only released on ST/Amiga/PC, which was a shame given ARM's ability to crush it for 3D. Code available here: github.com/jankfactor/s...
Acorn Archimedes computer with original CRT monitor. Inset photos show monitor cable put together from breakout boards connecting DB9 to VGA15 pin connectors.
Well chuffed to acquire an AKF30 (basically a CM8833) for my Archimedes. π₯Ή CRT loveliness. I did have to hack together some temporary cables while I wait for a decent one from CJE. The pin layout is kinda weird on these. Thank goodness for these breakout adapters! #retrogaming
A Computer Generated image of a blue cassette tape partially submerged in green looking water in a rock pool. There are bumps of sand with rocks on in the background and underwater.
Very happy to win first place at #RevisionParty2026 for my 4Kb executable graphics entry "Lost Media"!

I was lucky enough to go the the party too this year and had a really great time. It was good to hang out with friends old and new.
ABUG is an ironic place to re-infect my machine with !Icon virus. π Let the virus scan of shame commence. Not from another member, but that ruddy SCHOOLS folder I should nuked and never bothered to archive when I got the machine. Blimminβ kids!!! π€¬
Absolutely loving this. π
As per the previous post about getting esoteric aspect ratios on the Archimedes, I'm VERY tempted to pick up this experimental port of PowerMonger again. When it runs at the intended resolution, the background captains no longer look weirdly squished like dwarves from LOTR. π #retrogaming #indiedev
This is what Voyager should be beaming out into the galaxy. The rotating 3D cube is surely a universal means of spreading awesomeness. π
"Gribbly's Day Out on the Arc" (which also has cool rasterbars!) had a weird 366x194 mode. Good news is I have a CRT on the way, so I'm looking forward to playing with these on the original output. I might even pick up the PowerMonger port as the archie aspect really squishes the Captain graphics.
I was X years old when I discovered you can tweak things in ARM Supervisor Mode to get non-standard resolutions on the Archimedes. I see now how Krisalis' cool Amiga ports were able to get closer to 320x200 than the default archie 320x256. You see the bottom clipped off my game when I do this. π
Time for some more deep dives into The Sentinel, Geoff Crammond's epic #BBCMicro game!
Batch #6 is now ready: 3 new articles about screen buffers, panning, scrolling and dithering

Batch #7 (drawing the landscape) coming soon
Enjoy!

Thank you for your deep dives, they've been massively informative for learning interesting new things about how some of the great developers were thinking. Was also nice to finally say hello at ABUG!
The Christmas I got this game I made my whole family gather round and watch the intro video. A mixture of absolute confusion and horror followed. π (Grandma in particular was unimpressed). Brilliant game, nostalgia overload.
Yep, that's it! Confirmed that I saw 100% of them during the actual playback. Gah... dropped frames are annoying. But on the plus side, for once, I'm pleased it's not my crappy code. π
I had the original model and loved the crab-like claw he had. But seeing this version now, I think I was too harsh and it's a fantastic model in it's own right. (and certainly a bit more Ork-ish)
If you're not checking out Graham's Twitch, get that sorted! π¬ Also, he plays all the terrible cover disks so you don't have to. π (if you're in the east of England as well, see if you can get to one of the Norwich Amiga Group meets, they're always a blast).
In fairness, Shadow of the Beast III is both beautiful (visually and acoustically) and also eminently playable without being completely brutal. 3rd time lucky! π
There's a bug where the lasers don't render sometimes but I haven't figured that out yet. π€
Had an amazing weekend at Acorn & BBC Micro Users Group meetup in London this weekend. Been working on a new Archimedes game trying to capture the fun dog-fighting of Elite Dangerous but aiming for A3000-A3020 range of Archimedes computers. And also drinking a LOT of beer. π»π₯΄ #gamedev
This looks absolutely lovely! π₯Ή
I made an actual homemade PS1 engine, borrowed sound FX from Snake ps1 game (sfx is the hardest wtf). #indiedev #indiegame #gamedev #solodev #lowpoly #ps1 #hauntedps1
Curious timing! Spent last night with Linux Mint (live boot) on my Windows desktop. Everything just worked, performance great. Nvidia. Vulkan. YT. Twitch. And wine is at a level now where I had no issues loading up the last stragglers of my Windows system. I think this weekend the big wipe begins.
