Shad's line at the Owl Statue is a cut-up voice clip. In the original clip, the VA says, "na i ta ki i ni ro ko to no u ku n te ne." When the syllables are reversed, this Japanese means, "I want to go to the sky place."

Credit to TGA for noticing.

I used a Claude-tweaked Python script based on this one:
github.com/RenolY2/yaz0...

I'm not very knowledgeable, but I don't think there's anything unusual about the compression. If you message me on Discord, I can share my version of the script with you. My username is what you'd expect!

I used a Claude-tweaked script based on that one for decompression. There isn't a repository, but I can share my notes with you if you come here and post in the #mm channel: discord.gg/pXSKhKvd

I appreciate your interest!

The game originally incorporated some other Ocarina of Time holdover items in different ways. Goron Link had the Megaton Hammer as his special weapon, Zora Link had the Hookshot, and Deku Link had the Deku Nuts. Link is also first seen using the Deku Shield. tcrf.net/Prerelease:T...

Only the icons I posted are from the Gigaleak. The prerelease screenshot is simply there to illustrate the only glimpse we'd gotten of the Adult Link mask prior to now. It's not April 1 here yet, and I posted this on March 30, anyway. :)

Nintendo data leak - Wikipedia

No, it isn't in any version of the game that we possess. It's in a file that was part of this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintend...

I was thinking the same! I was wondering if it's Kazuaki Morita, since he's credited with boss programming on OoT and MM?

Bottom row, second from left in this A Link to the Past staff picture, I believe.

It's missing the following masks too: Kafei, Circus Leader, Couple's, Don Gero's, Kamaro's, Stone, Bremen, Blast, Scents. It also lacks the Pictograph Box, the last three Title Deeds, the Letter to Mama, Tingle's Map, and the Bomber's Notebook. These were apparently created after this date.

The file with those icons is likely from 2000/02/02 and also contains the Gerudo Mask (replaced with the All Night Mask) the Skull Mask (replaced with the Captain's Hat), and the Biggoron's Sword (replaced with FD Link's sword), as well as OoT quest items. The game was released on 2000/04/27.

There's still plenty of stuff to find and document! Most stuff in these files hasn't been gone over very thoroughly.

They're yaz0-compressed in bbgames-master\z_majora\data\shape\cube_MJ_TEXTURE2\JAPAN\ICON_ITEM2\icon_item_text.raw0, an early item icon file.

Earlier versions of the Boss Remains icons. Gyorg's icon might be a staff caricature. Twinmold's makes sense when you think about the dragon puppets at Chinese festivals.

You can see the final versions here: zeldawiki.wiki/wiki/Items_i...

At last, the elusive Adult Link Mask has been discovered... along with a few other things. It was probably called the Hero's Mask, if internal names are any indication.

I thought Lalam asked me to reply to your post with this, but I may have misunderstood and replied to the wrong one! Sorry if I made a mistake. :)

Being a knowledgeable longtime programmer in the age of Gen AI must be like being a wizard who knows magic and somebody inventing a robot that casts spells for all the other people who never bothered to learn

"Congrats on the release, you're fired." What an industry... I'm sorry to hear that, Trick and friends, and I hope you find a soft place to land with a company that supports you. Thank you for your work so far.

Thank you! One further bit of info I forgot: Okajima is credited as the author of a number of files in the Yoshi's Island ctools folder, with dates of 1992, 1994, and 1995. More references to him, mostly monkey-related functions, can be found in code by searching for "okaj". Best wishes to you too!

Oh, I'd also like to say that Alieneer noticed the graphic file the silhouette comes from, and Mattrizzle has been working hard to confirm information related to it, in addition to collaborating with me to find, reconstruct, and document other cool stuff. It's a team effort!

Anyway, this is my first time posting on Bluesky. I've never used it before and barely used Twitter, so hopefully this reply chain is communicated to you somehow. Thank you for the interest and crediting me, it was sweet. :) And kudos for having a great Tumblr.

My headcanon is that he accidentally took one of his colleagues umbrellas home from work one rainy day (by accident, he swears!) and so his umbrella banditry became an in-joke.
