Thanks! It’s an invitation to reconsider the ‘togetherness’ of therapeutic interactions. Only truly interactional lenses seem able to capture that reciprocal recipient orientation. Embodiment is so complex to just dismiss as ancillary not only to engagement (obv!) but even to task accomplishment.
Transformative practice emerges not from isolated techniques but from the fine-grained orchestration of gaze, touch, object use, and prosody within the sequential flow of everyday interaction.

We want to say thank you to all the social workers who have helped co-produce Moving Social Work and realise its impact. Funded by Sport England and NIHR and led by Professor Brett Smith in collaboration with Disability Rights UK.
🌷It was an interesting challenge to write a methodological paper, I learnt a lot from the process, having mostly published empirical and data driven papers before. Working with Brett was really stimulating and I look forward to exploring more avenues for #EMCA methods in the SES field.

By embracing CA’s emic, fine-grained analysis of naturally occurring interaction, SES scholars can deepen theoretical understanding, enhance applied relevance, and contribute to more inclusive, socially just, and practice-oriented research.

We outlined a forward-looking agenda for CA in SES, identifying opportunities for expanding empirical contexts beyond elite sport, strengthening co-production, advancing multimodal & embodied analyses, addressing ethical & practical challenges associated with naturalistic data collection.

We demonstrated the potential of focusing on how interactional practices central to sport and exercise – such as coaching, instruction, feedback, identity work, embodiment, and the negotiation of power – are accomplished in real time through talk and embodied conduct.

We reflected on the great research in SES using #EMCA but how is still somewhat limited.
So our paper aimed to broaden our understanding of what CA is, what it offers, and how it contributes to advancing SES. We introduced CA’s analytic commitments, distinguishing it from other qual approaches.
