OK Kids, our ERK story is finally heading out into the world. After 9 years of having funding, losing funding, losing staff, getting funding, gaining staff...it's ready!

We discovered a novel stage of what is an otherwise extensively studied process: how cells respond to extracellular signals. 1/n

Delighted to introduce KELPE: mESCs with two insulated genomic landing pads, which we use to generate new synNotch and PUFFFIN neighbour-labelling lines.
They were named after kelpies, creatures from Scottish folklore, and they look pretty on a kelpie micropattern!

We've got ISSUES. Literally.

We scraped >100k special issues & over 1 million articles to bring you a PISS-poor paper. We quantify just how many excess papers are published by guest editors abusing special issues to boost their CVs. How bad is it & what can we do?

A SWI/SNF-specific Ig-like domain, SWIFT, is a transcription factor binding platform Mammalian SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complexes modulate DNA accessibility and gene expression; however, their genomic targeting mechanisms remain incompletely understood. Here, we identify SWIFT (SW...

An integrated view of the structure and function of the human 4D nucleome - Nature The 4D Nucleome Project demonstrates the use of genomic assays and computational methods to measure genome folding and then predict genomic structure from DNA sequence, facilitatin...

A major output of the 4D Nucleome project appeared today. This is the joint effort of many scientists working together and (publicly) sharing data and results for several years. We hope this is of interest to many genome biologists!

Scientific journals: we don’t want you using generative AI because it makes shit up.

Same journal: here is an AI summary or evaluation of this paper. This might be more useful than the actual abstract or paper that the authors freaking wrote

Same journal: AI cover art which makes no sense? Oooh!

A conserved differentiation program facilitates inhibitory neuron production in the developing mouse and human cerebellum - preLights How do progenitor cells in the brain give rise to such a diverse range of cell types? ASCL1 and FOXO1 work together to create inhibitory neurons from bipotent progenitors

I really enjoyed writing a few words to highlight this excellent new preprint from the Bayin lab - check it out, especially for fans of ASCL1 prelights.biologists.com/highlights/a...
