Oh god I know. I'm also thinking about the sheer volume of vexatious complaints that will inevitably be filed and how much regulator time will be wasted adjudicating them.

This is excellent and everyone should read it. As Matt points, out, ironically the free speech karen helpline will make it easier for academics to abuse their position and regale their students with unevidenced, extramural opinions.

The slippery slope here is horrifying.

While I understand the health motivation for this, and I really do, I remain deeply uncomfortable about the idea that we can create a subsidiary group of adults who don’t have all the same freedoms as other adults (yes, even to chose to do stupid dangerous shit). 1/2

NEWS: The former Odeon Cinema in Morecambe (1937), now a hardware and bathroom supply shop, has been Grade II listed following support from C20 Society.

The Streamlined Moderne style cinema was one of 7 designed for Odeon by architect William Calder Robson; 3 of which survive, all are now listed.

This. Plus, there are people who've been casualised, got open-ended posts, been made redundant from them, and are now casualised again. This is not a new crisis on a perennial horizon, it's one that's getting worse but the inequalities in HE were already pretty evident when I started my PhD in 2007.

I still can't understand why "getting a sustainable HE funding system in place" isn't a/the KPI for all VCs.
Instead, we get constant shrugging of shoulders while saying "my pockets are so stuffed full of cash that I can barely raise my shoulders. So really, I'm the one who deserves some sympathy!"

Begging folks with open ended academic jobs not to forget there’s a whole underclass of permanently casualised academics who’ve been facing redundancy as standard for years. 12+ in my case.

I get it’s awful facing redundancy ofc! Just…this isn’t unprecedented for us. It’s the norm.
