JAMA study: Low-use physical restraints in ICU patients on mechanical ventilation didn't improve coma/delirium-free days. Population: 245 males, 151 females, median age 65. Intervention: 405 patients randomized, 196 low-use, 200 high-use strategy. Findings: Low-use 6.67 days, High-use 6.30 days.
A restrictive (lower use) wrist-strap restraint approach did not improve #delirium-free or #coma-free days compared to liberal use in mechanically #ventilated #ICU patients.

Building on these findings, we are working with the Politecnico di Milano to train an artificial intelligence algorithm capable of automatically detecting cardiac arrest from surveillance video footage, with particular potential impact in cases of unwitnessed cardiac arrest.
The insights gained may help improve education, public awareness, and the development of strategies aimed at earlier recognition and more timely intervention.
This work is part of the EU-funded TIME-CARE project.
In this study, we analyzed 145 OHCAs captured by surveillance cameras. These videos provide a unique opportunity to directly observe the earliest moments of collapse, revealing signs of cardiac arrest, frequently misinterpreted behaviors and delay between event recognition and the initiation of CPR.
Clinicians rarely witness what actually happens in the very first moments of OHCA. What we know is most often reconstructed from the narratives of bystanders or family members who were present at the scene.

Delighted to be speaking at #LIVES2025 @ESICM 38th Annual Congress in Munich.
I will present on "What can we do in refractory cardiac arrest - eCPR for everyone?"
I look forward to discussing advances in intensive care with a global community of clinicians and researchers.

In the ANH phase 3 trial involving adult patients undergoing elective cardiac surgery, acute normovolemic hemodilution did not reduce the number of patients receiving allogeneic red-cell transfusion. Full trial results: nej.md/3FxdMrW

Does CPR before donor death affect organ function?
We found that organs from donors who received CPR has similar outcomes to organs from donors who didn’t receive CPR.
Kidneys/livers after uDCD showed worse outcomes compared to DBD.

#ISICEM25 | Antoni Torres on when to stop antibiotics in severe CAP 🦠💊
🔹 Outpatients: ≤5 days if stable
🔹 Non-severe inpatients: <5 days (minimum 3)
🔹 Severe CAP: ≥5 days if stable
Key question: Can clinical stability criteria from CAP be applied to SCAP patients on mechanical ventilation?

📊 Thousands of patients, consistent data, and mortality reduction, yet SDD remains underutilized.

•Availability
•Optimal regimen
•Impact on microbiome
