#OTD in 1917, the Albanian writer/dissident Musine Kokalari was born. One of my most rewarding research projects looked at the 1946 trial of this strong, imaginative, and brave human being. Despite the regime’s best efforts, she kept on writing. Happy Birthday Musine Kokalari

As a surgeon in Gaza, I witnessed hell visited on children. It shames me that Britain played a part in it | Nizam Mamode I saw them killed by sniper fire and drones. Why doesn’t Labour condemn it? Why do arms keep flowing in Israel’s direction? asks retired professor of transplant surgery Nizam Mamode

‘It is quite common to hear high officials in Washington and elsewhere speak of changing the map of the Middle East, as if ancient societies and myriad peoples can be shaken up like so many peanuts in a jar.’

Gaza war toll likely significantly undercounts deaths, says study An official Palestinian tally of direct deaths in the Israel-Hamas war likely undercounted the number of casualties by 41% through the middle of 2024 as the Gaza Strip's healthcare infrastructure unravelled, according to the study.

NEW: A study by Yale University and other institutions has found that the Gaza war death toll is likely 41% HIGHER than Palestinian health officials reported.

It also found that over 59% of those killed were women, children and people over the age of 65.

What shatters our hearts is not just the Israeli massacres, the genocide tearing through our lives—it is the quiet, insidious ache of being made to feel invisible, unworthy, less than human. It’s the unspoken weight of knowing that, to the world, our suffering is a faint whisper, not a scream.

Israeli occupation forces continue ethnically cleansing the north. Today, they attacked a school in the Jabalia refugee camp and forced people out of it. Then they lined them up and shot anyone who dared to move. Any male over the age of 16 is being detained, tortured, and investigated. Many people who are being lined up are sick individuals, such as amputees, cancer patients, and young kids who are being asked to stand in line for hours. The situation is catastrophic.

No words. For all the devastation Gaza has faced, North Gaza is a completely other level.

I've always been hesitant to ever compare things directly to the Holocaust, but everything I'm hearing reminds me of the stories my family had passed down as well as what Jews have learned about our past.

Recently deceased novelist Ismail Kadare’s Chronicle in stone.

Truly astounding book. I don’t think I have read anything close to the beauty of the boy’s description of rain drops and water in a novel. I guess my reading it proves death sells tho I had read Palace of Dreams.

At Al-Shifa hospital Gaza:

We currently have around 600 inpatients who need medical care.

We have around 37 to 40 premature babies.

We have around 17 other patients in the ICU.

We have around 600 postoperative admitted patients which need medical care.

We need a ceasefire.

‘The war will end
The leaders will shake hands
The old woman will keep waiting for her martyred son
That girl will wait for her beloved husband
And those children will wait for their hero father
I don’t know who sold our homeland
But I saw who paid the price.’
