โThe Silent Crisis in Clinical Pharmacy.โ This LTTE discusses a lot of what we all have felt, discussed amongst colleagues, but only whispered about. Itโs time to have honest and heartfelt discussions if we want to save the profession

First Barrow Neurocritical Care division journal club! We had a multidisciplinary discussion regarding transfusion thresholds in acute brain injury, discussing the HEMOTION, TRAIN, and SAHARA trials. Very excited to continue these multidisciplinary journal clubs! #neuro #academia
More twists in black plastic utensils story: The study overstated the potential exposure to flame retardants by an order of magnitude because of a math error, and now the whole journal has been de-listed from a science index for not meeting "quality criteria." arstechnica.com/health/2024/...
That sounds bad. But 60 times 7,000 is not 42,000. It is 420,000. This is what Joe Schwarz noticed. The estimated exposure is not even a tenth of the reference dose. That does not sound as bad. "I think it does change the flavour of the whole thing somewhat when you're off by a factor of ten in comparing something to the reference value," he said. Lead author Megan Liu, science and policy manager at Toxic-Free Future, described the mistake as a "typo" and said her co-authors have submitted a correction to the journal. The error remains in the online version but Liu said she anticipates it will be updated soon. "However, it is important to note that this does not impact our results, " Liu told National Post. "The levels of flame retardants that we found in black plastic household items are still of high concern, and our recommendations remain the same."
PSA: The black plastic utensils story is a classic example of something that happens often: unsupportable scientific results communicated in popular media. This case was author error but recent headlines about processed food & colon cancer are from data that didnโt look at processed food consumption
Not done yet but has been great so far! It is definitely a long listen- considered the same thing because I could probably get through it much faster just reading
Not my usual type of post but I am definitely excited for this
When AA approved- FDA mandated follow up trial to compare it to standard of care (Annexa I). Trial left us asking lots of ?โs (mRS, TE info, etc). FDA is meeting today to review the trial and reconsider AA. Data submitted for this hearing is publicly available and contains some of the missing data ๐
Reading through the FDA dossier on Andexxa I. Wow- seems like a lot of the data that we have all wanted to see really DOES exist. I am interested to see how this plays out. At the very least high dose has got to goโฆ right?! #pharmsky #medsky
Honey, stop what you're doing, new hyponatremia research just dropped!
What's it say?
It looks like slow correction is associated with worse outcomes, like death and length of stay!
Was it just a small study?
No, it was a meta-analysis of almost 12,000 patients!

The CDC and WHO report a 20% increase in measles cases last year, driven by decreases in vaccination.
This equated to 107,500 DEATHS, mostly in young children.
This, in a PREVENTABLE disease.
Can only imagine what that number will be if we get rid of all mandates.

Left X when it was no longer twitter and defected to threads. Miss the med/pharm engagement of the old platform. Hoping this is better ๐ค๐ผ
