Super excited to give my first Skype-a-Scientist presentation! Can't wait to answer all the questions that I was emailed and is teaching the next generation is a great way to bring hope in such dark times. Shout out to @skypeascientist.bsky.social who makes this all happen!
My wife was yelling at our 6yo about not using broken sticks to open boxes, and he replied "just chill karen". Somehow this is my fault!
I feel so bad for kids whose parents make them watch conservative Bluey because they think the dad is too woke/ isn't manly enough.
Bluey taught me to be a better dad and a better person. Engaging with kids imagination isn't masculine? Such bullshit.
Scientifically accurate since gummy sharks also have no bones.
Ray Vaughn just released his debut album. Great story telling and great production, highly recommend! Look @ God is a banger.

Image from court document saying “Yeah, I want it all, that’s why I strive for it / Diss me, you’ll never hear a reply for it.”- Drake “Successful”Plaintiff, one of the most successful recording artists of all time, lost a rap battle that heprovoked and in which he willingly participated. Instead of accepting the loss like the unbotheredrap artist he often claims to be, he has sued his own record label in a misguided attempt to salvehis wounds. Plaintiff’s Complaint is utterly without merit and should be dismissed with prejudice
Court DISSmals are not was I was expecting in 2025. Whole document is gold.

My 6yo randomly said "I hate racists" and I told him, yeah that's right we shouldn't like racists and should support equality. He paused and followed up with, "I mean that thing when we run a lot"
Even AI couldn't hallucinate something so ridiculous.
A hand holding four shrunken styrofoam cups the size of shot glasses. Two with jellyfish colored on them and two with black and white lines
People say scientists are serious but marine biologists will spend hours quietly sitting around tables drawing on styrofoam cups and then tying said cups to deep sea submarines
Because ocean pressure will squeeze the air from the cups
And we are but human & we want tiny cup
A bottle filled with pond water containing some algae, plants, and snails.
Oh my God. This might explain the sudden interest in jarquariums this past week. I am already planning on a bunch more for the new year. Anything to keep the real world far away as possible.
Image of three hydras in a jar filled with pond water. One of the hydra is budding off the other.
Collected river water to make jarquarium with my son and was amazed to see hydras in the water. Never actually seen one myself and didn't realize how easy they are to find and that they are bug enough to see with the naked eye #invert
Reviewer #2: Flawed experiment as ants communicate through sound and smells. To make it comparable feed humans beans before experiment and let them communicate through farts.
Mathematics of biology. Was a CS major wanting to go into video game design. That was the only "biology" course I had in undergrad but eventually ended up in computational biology as my PhD program as I loved connecting biology and math.
That's just a sea cucumber left in the ocean too long.

In 1890, the X and Y chromosomes were discovered. It was found that the men who were tested had 46 chromosomes, including an X and a Y, while women who were tested also had 46 chromosomes, including 2 X chromosomes.
So obviously the conclusion was that the Y chromosome defined masculinity.
part of the growing pains of every community, social media, etc is "what do we do with people who are pretending to be kind, saying the right things, and technically not doing anything wrong right now but are still ontologically evil" and the answer is "stop playing their game and ban them"
Georgia O'Keeffe like sculpture
My 6yo son made a sculpture and my wife painted it. When they showed me their creation, I was screaming inside while saying "Good job!"
Reupping this since the explosion in members here.

Cropped image from Drake's lawsuit against UMG with Drake's signature signed in ink above Aubrey Drake Graham
"I'm not gonna lie, this shit was um, some good exercise, like it's good to get out and get the pen working." - Drake
Drake has initiated legal action against Universal Music Group and Spotify over allegations that the two companies conspired to artificially inflate the popularity of Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.” In a filing Monday (Nov. 25) in Manhattan court, Drake’s Frozen Moments LLC accused UMG of launching an illegal “scheme” involving bots, payola and other methods to pump up Lamar’s song — a track that savagely attacked Drake amid an ongoing feud between the two stars.
Drake’s attorneys accuse UMG of violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, the federal “RICO” statute often used in criminal cases against organized crime. They also allege deceptive business practices and false advertising under New York state law. The court filings are a remarkable twist in the high-profile beef between the two stars, which saw Drake and Kendrick exchange stinging diss tracks over a period of months earlier this year. That such a dispute would spill into business litigation seemed almost unthinkable in the world of hip-hop.

I hope the UMG calls Kendrick to do "Not Like Us" at the trial and cause the judge to dismiss with extreme prejudice while doing a c-walk.
Will you help @bolts.bsky.social reach 50K mark on here before week is out? We’re so close!
Here’s why you should: We’re a small but mighty team of journalists, determined to report and guide you thru the local officials & institutions that shape nation’s approach to democracy & criminal justice.

This is how I learned about the Kendrick drop and I couldn't be happier!
Really appreciate you shedding light on this. I've done one time donations to Wikipedia before but just signed up for recurring donations. Keep up the great work!
Oh my God! This entire thread brought back so many buried memories and I thank you/curse you for the hours I will waste reading about FBoW!
