#SciComm poster Tips! 💡⤵️
Climate change is complex and that complexity is often exploited.
Before sharing, pause, question, and verify.
Reliable information is based on evidence. Understanding it is key to informed decisions.

Science ♡ Poetry
To address complicated challenges, such as the energy transition, you have to engage the head 🧠 and the heart ❤️ - Poetry can be a good way to bridge the two.

Science communication isn’t just for scientists 👀
Our colleagues Fintan and Laura delivered two SciComm workshops for EUROfusion staff and scientists which focused on audience-first messaging, physical presence in presenting, and unlocking creativity through hands-on exercises.
Kids as peer reviewers? At Frontiers for Young Minds, young readers review scientific papers, honest&clear.
"By working directly with kids, we help foster curiosity [...]and engage the next generation of citizens and scientists."
A fresh way making science accessible.
What if fantasy worlds obey real physics? 🌍
Scientists used climate models to test Middle-earth & Westeros.
A clever way to make climate science more engaging.
Brain drain is affecting many of Europe’s regional universities. While some areas attract researchers, others struggle with depopulation and short-term contracts. From double degrees to visiting professor schemes, institutions are finding new ways to retain talent.

How can science reach society?
A new report by the Swedish Research Council explores how countries across Europe strengthen #SciComm.
Who actually sees climate change on German TV?
A new study shows: mostly those already engaged.
Entertainment audiences, often more climate-distant, are rarely reached.

📚 What is your favourite popular scientific book?
Bill Bryson: A Short History of Nearly Everything
I am jealous, I wish I had written it! It is fun and covers so much, exactly the style I am aiming for in my books.
🤿 What are your hobbies?
I'm not sure if my photography qualifies as hobby, lifestyle or work, but I always carry at least one camera and take lots of pictures. The most popular ones are frosty trees in the northern part of Sweden. A few pictures end up in my books.
🫖 What is your favourite beverage while working?
Coffee! Lots of it. In the morning, a couple of cups of brewed coffee, preferably from a mocka master and a medium or dark roast. In the afternoon I enjoy a cappuccino if the beans are freshly ground. Arabica from Ethiopia is my favourite.
🚲 How do you commute to work?
I work wherever I am, which suits me perfectly. At the moment skis work well because we have lots of snow in Sweden. I am also fond of trams.
✨ Why does working at ESCI excite you?
The hydrogen project fascinates me, the scale & ambition of what it aims to achieve makes it interesting to be part of. Everyone I've met so far seems genuinely engaged and easy to work with – a bit nerdy in the best possible way. That's my kind of environment!
Welcome Kristina, our new Science Communicator! 🧪
Based in Sweden, she’s a key asset for the Horizon Europe project HiWhyV, which aims to build the country’s first hydrogen valley. With MScs in Biochemistry & SciComm, she’s a pro at complex projects.
Q&A to get to know her better 🧵
Since 2008, the “Dance Your Ph.D.” contest has invited scientists to present their research.
This year’s top prize goes to Sofia Papa, who turned the piezoelectric effect into a synchronised performance.
Two intense days at Successful R&I in Europe 2026 🤝
The ESCI team spoke with ~80 potential partners and already joined 3 new Horizon Europe proposals.
One clear takeaway: strong communication & impact planning increasingly makes the difference in successful EU projects.

Every year we’re reminded why we love this tradition so much:
A Kohltour means a winter walk, a wagon of snacks, games that get weirdly competitive, and kale at the end. 🥬
Congrats to our newly crowned Kale Royalty:

Climate change is usually shown in graphs and charts.
But what if we could hear it?
Data sonification transforms climate datasets into sound, making trends and anomalies perceptible in a completely new way. A cool tool for science communication.

What if volcanic ash could help the environment? 🌋🌱
New research suggests ash from Mount Etna can boost soil health and support plant growth, turning a volcanic byproduct into something useful. A great example of science finding solutions in unexpected places: https://bit.ly/RCSVolcanoAsh

On #WomenInSTEMDay, we celebrate women herders 🌿
Their ecological knowledge sustains species-rich grasslands and biodiversity, even if it’s rarely recognised as STEM.
At BIOTraCes, we work with women herders as equal knowledge holders.

Think society is in moral decline? The data says otherwise.
Studies show that people across the world still value honesty, loyalty and helpfulness, and often act on those values.
