Ireland's continuing lack of awareness of the presence of global far-right influence/activism in Ireland literally keeps me awake at night

Capitulating to these groups while ignoring everyone else will bite the government so hard in the arse. It’s entirely predictable and will now be funny when it happens. Just wait until the people realise the organisers’ "in it together" claims were manipulative nonsense #SpeirGorm

A bit of advice for those politicians who consider themselves centre to centre right and influnzers who think they're sound. Don't use dog whistle racism and then be shocked, clasping your pearls at the very real disturbing consequences. #spéirghorm

Thinking a lot about the Gardaí actively escorting anti-LGBT protestors into libraries a few years back during a wave of similar "protests" where library staff were harassed and books were destroyed for containing pro-LGBT viewpoints.

For no particular reason, of course. #SpéirGhorm

Is there a functioning Israeli embassy in Dublin? I thought it had shut down. Anyway, from what I remember, the buildings are conveniently close together to protest outside both at the same time.

James Conway? Surprised anyone with half a braincell would let this unstable violent idiot be a spokesperson.

He was/is (who fooking cares) a member of Hermann Kelly’s IFP, a Farage adjacent party that blamed immigration for everything.

I'm temporarily (hopefully) disabled and my walking is very limited. At least 3 wheelchair users forced off the luas at Stephen's Green. I'll never forget how these pricks with big engines but small thoughts shutdown public transport because their wallets were taking a hit. #speirGorm

Saying you are going to wipe out a civilisation is genocidal language. Drumpf is using the language of a genocidal maniac.

Not all work in all towns, and not all are available on non irish phones. I'm not going to ring around when I'm at a bus stop on my own on a dark evening. Safety comes first.

3 weeks ago 1 0 1 0

But there isn't much choice when you're left somewhere without a taxi rank. If you're dropped off at a busy time of day you could be ringing around with no luck and if its late in the evening or raining and you're dropped off at a stop with no shelter what are you supposed to do?

If you book online, it gives you the option depending on the destination of the bus

The past few times, I've got off at the university and ordered an Uber. Some busses don't stop at B&Q, so you have to be careful. The one to Galway does, but the other route that goes through Tuam doesn't.

I used to get that bus, and because it left passengers at the station, it felt safer. It was easier if you wanted to get a taxi. Though they didn't have a 2am bus for anyone getting a 6am flight.

Lots of them here in Le Havre, and yes, they are noisy day and night.

Did they run out of synonyms and asked Joey from Friends for a loan of his thesaurus?

Here's hoping. Though his successor could be worse, remember he's a protégé of the Peter Thiel

With the second round municipal election taking place on Sunday I'm using this St Patrick's Day to remind people of what the incumbent mayor of Le Havre said on TV about colonialism. He said it isn't a crime. #spéirghorm

La dépendance de l'Irlande envers les États-Unis pourrait causer sa perte. L’Irlande, qui prend la présidence du conseil de l’UE au deuxième semestre 2026, a une histoire unique en Europe.

Here's a little article I wrote in French for a French audience to cover a few hundred years of history and why Ireland has such close ties to the US. Written with St Patrick's Day and the Shamrock ceremony in mind. #Spéirghorm open.substack.com/pub/karenmar...

Biddy Early They said she kept
a blue bottle. The colour of deep water,
of bruises.
Men with books came searching for the thing
they feared inside it. But the hills had already
told her their secrets.
Bog-myrtle.
Foxglove.
The slow grammar of rain. Women crossed the dark fields to her door
with quiet emergencies.
Milk gone bitter.
Blood that would not come. The future pressing
like weather.
The priests called it witchcraft.
The law called it fraud.
But the land had always trusted her hands.
perdans ined nothing. Only the dangerous rumour that a woman might know what the earth

In Irish tradition, a bean feasa (“wise woman ”) was a healer and seer who worked with herbs, lore, and the wisdom of the land. Biddy Early was one of the most famous. Denounced by some clergy as a witch, she was brought to court but never convicted. #vss365 #SpeirGorm #SpéirGhorm

Your reminder this #IWD that we won't bring down the patriarchy without first bringing down the Epstein class. Anything else is just chipping away at a system and living off crumbs. #spéirghorm

How come “How are you going to pay for it?” is never asked about endless war?
