Choice of posters this time was influenced by the fact we’re on a bit of a Ryan Gosling roll post-Project Hail Mary… watched The Nice Guys last night 🤣.

The very blue one sheet poster for In The Loop, with two silhouetted US/UK political types using tin cans to listen to each other, but the string is all tangled up! How unrealistic!
More linen-backing! More preservation! This time a one-sheet for In The Loop with definite Saul Bass vibes. Turned up on eBay one time & never seen since. Seems to have been a limited run for North America but I’m guessing aiannucci.bsky.social would know more🤣. Anyway, we love it.

Linen-backed mayhem this week. First up, and thanks to the magic of mpag.co.uk, here is the now restored & preserved classic John Alvin take on Blade Runner. Having only ever seen this online, it’s amazing how much it pops ‘in the flesh’. Awesome restoration work.

Grim but true: As a teenager my best friend and I used to buy comic books from a small shop in the north of England. We used to chat with the owner, Ron.
Ron was later discovered to be a child kidnapper and killer, who had escaped detection while an innocent man went to prison for decades.
Note to 70s/80s cartoon & TV folks from me age 7-12: NONE of your ****ing ‘from the kids’ pov’ characters worked. Not Godzooky, not Wily Kit/Kat on Thundercats, not 7ZARK7 on Battle of the Planets. We *all* hated them. HATED. HATED. HATED. We wanted the good stuff & you diluted it every time.

John Alvin was a huge talent and many of us probably grew up not knowing who this man was and what his work would mean to us later in life. John created some of the most recognisable movie posters from our childhoods and we remember him today on the anniversary of his passing, 18 years ago today.

Bonus points for making insurance interesting. Edward G Robinson steals every scene he’s in, although I’m not sure why the company was writing policies offering 200% payouts in certain circs if it didn’t want to honour them, but I don’t think I’m supposed to concern myself with that.

Agreed! Am about halfway in but little things like DSV2 powering up in ‘Redemption’ really make it the business. Somehow the wafer thin differences between Blake & Travis (who seems less geezer in HD) are more noticeable with Avon and Servalan despairing of both. #avonsgadgetworks
