A large-scale analysis of changes in fish biomass over 25 years identifies average biomass declines associated with long-term warming, as well as sharp decreases and increases associated with heatwaves at the warm and cold edges of species’ ranges, respectively 🧪 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

New study confirms that short wavelength light (UV & blue) attracts the most nocturnal insects & that intensity increases attraction for all colours. Longer wavelength & lower intensity outdoor lights should reduce biodiversity impacts resjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/... #teammoth 🌍
I started getting reports of an unseasonal Joshua tree bloom in the last few weeks, and looking over records on @inaturalist.bsky.social it's pretty widespread! So we're putting out the call for folks to record this "bonus bloom" and help us study it 🌿

Why is biodiversity collapsing globally, but thriving on Indigenous lands? 🌱🧪
Botanist Robin Wall Kimmerer points to a striking pattern in global biodiversity reports: Indigenous territories are defying the widespread ecological decline.

Instead, she invites us to see the natural world as a gift, something to care for and not control. This mindset shift, grounded in both Indigenous science and environmental ethics, fosters a sense of moral responsibility toward all living systems.
What if the Earth isn’t something we own, but something we owe? 🌏
Robin Wall Kimmerer, renowned botanist and member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, explores how the dominant view of the Earth as property has led to ecological harm.
Limonium narbonense can tolerate salty conditions by pushing excess salt out its’ leaves. This allows it to inhabit environments many other plants are unable to. I absolutely love this plants’ way of tolerating harsh conditions by creating little salt crystals!
Late / still bloomer update from my balcony. Please don’t overlook the matching colors of my shoes and sweater with the flowers 😌✨ so glad I get to live with these wonderful plants!

✨Book recommendation! ✨
Old books sometimes get a strange "vanilla" smell... 🤔👃
That scent comes from the breakdown of paper and ink — releasing hundreds of volatile organic compounds, including vanillin, aldehydes, and acids.
So that cozy library smell? It’s literally the odor of books slowly decaying...📚
Correction: Mosses and a Liverwort.
Some of my favorite images I took of Mosses. Aren’t they wonderful?

Work with seagrass? 🌱
We're often asked by the public: “What can I do to reduce seagrass loss?”
We’re running a survey to identify the everyday actions people can take to support seagrass conservation and we’d love your insights!

When we view nature through a lens of relationship, not ownership, we begin to cultivate sustainability from the inside out.
