Mortal Kombat movie retrospective is about to commence (so that I'm ready for the latest installment releasing some time later this year). Wish me strength. 😅
Expected ranking:
1): Mortal Kombat II (2026)
2): Mortal Kombat (2021)
3): Mortal Kombat (1995)
4): Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997)

Some screenies from various dungeons, from my most recent run through the #ruinsOfCalaworm. About to enter the final region now, just need to solve the 'Rite of the Seal' first.

Reminder, that if u happen to know any GenX/Millenials from Germany, who have been playing classic "Die Gemäuer von Kalawaum" back in the days (I know ur out there), please kindly refer them to my game "The #ruinsOfCalaworm."
It is a loving tribute, with blessings from the original dev. 🥹

Was my favorite movie of the bunch. It doesn't do anything spectacularly new, but something familiar really, really well. Has a couple of genuine WTF moments, while also touching on some very human subject matter, and dark humor.
Can also recommend Hanna Bergholm's previous movie THE HATCHING.
Happy April 20th, all. 🤗

Fantasy Filmfest (Germany's one true major genre movie event) is a wrap.
4 Highlights from 4 different countries:
- NIGHTBORN (Hanna Bergholm🇫🇮)
- FEELS LIKE HOME (Gabor Holtai 🇭🇺)
- IMPOSTERS (Caleb J. Phillips 🇺🇲)
- THE VILE (Majid Al Ansari 🇦🇪)
Not so much coding these days, but playtesting. 😊
Also giving all textLines in the game a 2nd pass: either make 'em easier to read, or see where I can throw out double/weak/meaningless phrases & adjectives, to make blurbs even more concise.
Just pleasantly buzzed, no Jekyll/Hyde thing going on here. 😅
PureBasic.
It's basically C with friendly BASIC Syntax. 😅
Late night #gameDev at the 24-hour Lounge (currently at a genre movie festival). It's a vibe.🤗
Drink is a "Ruby's Naked & Famous" (Tequila, Aperol, Pineapple, Lime, Vanilla + Aromatic Bitters)
#ruinsOfCalaworm is a turn-based Dungeon Crawler, where you explore ancient Ruins and bump into Witches and Eldritch Horrors (based on an obscure 90s German cult game).
Think #roguelike, but less stats and no builds - just you and the Dungeon.
• Demo available.
• Release sometime later in 2026.

Regarding naming conventions in my code, there's traces left here and there by my more immature other self. Main String Array has been named "stringz$()" and the structField holding the respective Covenant identifier got shortened to "covID".
Take that, Code Reviewers!

Thank you. Oh, I hope so, cuz the game is done. 😅
Only doing post-production stuff now. Like, extensive playtesting, apply small balance tweaks and here, and polish where I see fit.
And, of course, bug fixing.
There's a Demo on my @itch.io page.
The Fire Vampires in #ruinsOfCalaworm aren't your standard fantasy bloodsuckers - their design is partly borrowed and inspired from 1933's short story "The Fire Vampires" by Donald Wandrei, which later got incorporated into Cthulhu Mythos.
And they can be pretty scary ...👻🔥

One final patch before release ... this one addresses two important pain points, which may affect player retention.
• Fixed Unsolvable Layouts in procGenerated Regions
• Smaller Starting Region
• Plus numerous other tweaks, polish and QoL-stuff

If very time s.o. says "Oh hi [name]", you'd drink a shot (or take a hit, whatever suits you), you'd be wasted by half time
Watching Tommy Wiseau's THE ROOM
Random observation: Every time Johnny spells out "haha" when laughing (and he does that a lot), you could put him as NPC in a DARK SOULS game, and it would not even be weird
Ikr 😅above all with these "heritage" bugs, that you have to track globally across multiple functions.
It's one thing to know what to fix, but another thing, to also understand how it happened, and why your fix actually works. It's a good mindset to train & maintain, even/especially in the age of AI.
Got it!
Knew what I had to do for some time, but I have this weird attitude, that I won't treat a bug as fully resolved, if I did not understand it's intricate workings in the 1st place. So tested some more with some more Print Statements, before finally allowing myself to get rid of it for good.
Yeah, this shouldn't happen ... 🤔
But getting closer to the issue ... if you create a new binding ritual with another Covenant, while the fee hasn't been collected yet, and then completely deplete these freshly granted respawns, on ur final respawn you'll end up with a dupe.
At least now got me a saveScummed moment in time, where by stringing together specific actions in a specific order I am able to recreate the bug ...
My inner senior dev be like
Investigating another very rare edge case, where the soulsFee (pickup left in the region of demise, which you should collect before dying once more - else it's lost in the Abyss) can spawn again on re-enter.
Not super-serious cuz duped pickup has value = 0; but still confusing and annoying.

more folk for the Acts - once these all get entered in I'll have some cool little tech trees to show
Try the King of Pickaxe demo, an action roguelike where you steer with your mouse cursor and time swings to crush endless waves of rocks, one run at a time.
