Friday 27 February 6pm. Time for #IBIKEBop
Anyone spot a cyclist (me) knocked off her bike along the canal at drimnagh today by someone who drove away? If you got a reg I’d love the help to report them! @ibike.ie
AI generated image of a cargo bike on a cobbled road, supposedly in Dublin. There is a pub called the Brazen Head that looks nothing like the real one. And the halfpenny food bridge which goes over the River Liffey now goes over a road with a double decker bus on it! It's obviously fake!
What do you mean it's obviously AI generated? How can you tell?
The arrogance of people who tell others what clothes and headgear they should wear doing daily things like cycling to the shop is unreal.
And none of them willing to wear high-vis or helmets in their cars "if it saves one life".
Anything, but safer streets, and enforcement of existing laws.
The Irish government is victim blaming people who cycle and scoot.
Rather than making it safer for sustainable and active travel, they are attempting to stigmatize people who don't wear the right clothes or PPE.
The implication is that those who don't wear PPE are asking to be injured.
It gets worse! Just when you thought they had come up with the worst possible legislation they've gone and made it worse again.

Gov: Hey RSA, you're responsible for road safety, right? What can we do to make it safer for bikes and scooters?
RSA: Erm, dunno. High vis maybe?
And there we have it folks, having failed to do anything to halt the injury and death toll on our roads the government now plans to criminalise cycling.
This will kill bike share schemes around the country. @bleeperactive.bsky.social

We’re not made of sugar!
We enjoyed a rain themed playlist for our #IBIKEBop with @ibike.ie
Join us on 27 Feb for the next one!

The weekly shop - three full bags of groceries - is easily carried by bicycle, if you have the right bicycle. #CargoBike #ShopByBike
Fun @ibike.ie #CriticalMassDub in the rain, hope we brought some fun on a rainy night in Dublin @brigitdublin.bsky.social illuminations and flags look great! Looking forward to #BrigitByBike in the #Brigit parade on Sunday. @dublincycling.bsky.social
It may have been wet, we may have been few in number but the craic was no less mighty!

If you're going to make cyclists wear high vis clothes and a helmet then you should do the same for motorists.
Motorists are nearly invisible inside their vehicles at night, and there are far more head injuries that take place inside cars than for cyclists.
Phil said it! We believe it!
Get yourself down to Parnell Square, this Friday 6pm. It’s time for #CriticalMassDub #IBIKEBop
We can’t wait to see you there!
Bikes, tunes, good company!
What’s not to like!
The last Friday of the month is almost here, which means it's time for #criticalmass #IBikeBop
I would prefer increased restrictions on using bus lanes, not more relaxed!
And cameras on buses to photograph people parking and driving in bus lanes, to send out automatic fines.
person biking with another person standing on the back. bicycles deliver the freedom that auto ads promise.

“Nobody will cycle to a furniture store on the edge of town...”
Meanwhile, in the Netherlands: build high-quality cycle infrastructure to the store from the city centre, provide ample bike parking, and add e-bike charging.
Turns out, lots of people cycle to a furniture store on the edge of town.
Using the bus for the last week has gotten old quite quickly, especially when the journey takes twice as long as cycling, and especially when the bus is so full it doesn't even stop at the bus stop.
It's nice to have a bicycle with premium parts until it becomes difficult to get hold of those premium parts.
My bike has been sitting in the shed unused for a whole week now.
The fact that it uses a carbon belt instead of a chain means that I've had to wait over a week to get a belt shipped from Germany rather than buying a new chain from my local bike shop.
My journey to church and back was by bus today. Must say it was quite pleasant. Listened to some music, resisted the urge to doom scroll on my phone, and just watched the world go by.
I prefer to be on my bicycle, but that's going to be out of action for a week or so.

Viktor's ebike, now empty, with a bunch of Christmas trees behind it in a pile
But what if you have to haul a 7 foot Christmas tree in the rain? With a cargo ebike and some cam straps, it's no problem at all

One of the best parts of the ride is after everyone has gone home.
The streets are quiet, the air is cool, and the emotions are high.
I tried a few bike shops in Dublin today to source a new carbon belt for my bike. It's not the kind of thing they stock, so I'll have to wait for one to arrive from The Netherlands or Germany.
I once fell off my bike when a wheel got trapped in the Luas track here on James Street. Luckily the driver of the bin lorry behind me was paying attention and stopped in time.
That was 15 years ago, and the road is still just as dangerous to cyclists today!

The good news is that that the drive belt for my bike is covered under warranty. The bad news is that it will take a week or more to arrive.
That means my bicycle, my primary form of transport, is out of action. I'll have to work out another way to get places.
I wish I hadn't sold my second bike!
Technically it was my belt that snapped not my chain - because I have a belt drive bike - but it's easier to say chain.
Eithe way I thought those things were meant to be indestructible?
